Eva Wordlow Clay was born to Henry Lee Fulton and Maymie Wordlow on May 27, 1948, in Louisville, Kentucky. She was the second child of 11.
Eva’s Christian journey began at an early age. She gave her life to Christ at Cable Baptist Church where she also sang in the choir. She graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School and later enrolled at the Whitney M. Young, Jr. Job Corps Center in their culinary program.
Eva started her work career at General Electric, before marrying and moving to California. There, she expanded her family and became a mom to the love of her life, son, Jemiah K. Clay. They returned to Louisville in 1990 and she continued to work in various positions to provide and care for her and her son.
She was proud of her neighborhood and making sure she had a voice in her community. She could always be found at Newburg Park, participating in, and assisting in, the many events held there.
As much as she loved her community, nothing was more important than her family. She was a mother figure to many of her nieces, nephews, and childhood friends of the family. She was respected as a strong disciplinarian and leader of her family.
Her culinary skills on the grill cannot go unmentioned. Everyone loved it when Eva cooked. In her spare time she was a faithful member of “That’s How We Roll” social club.
Sadly, Eva Wordlow Clay departed this life on Tuesday, February 21, 2024. Her strength was evident throughout her illness and up until her last breath. Her beautiful smile, colorful style and boisterous personality will be missed.
She leaves to cherish her memory her son, Jemiah Clay (Traci); granddaughters, Kaylyn L. Reed, J’Tasya Y. Story, Tiara J. Clay, Thai M. Clay, Sami J. Clay, Sadie J. Clay and grandson, Jemiah K. Clay Jr.; 4 great-grandsons, 3 great-granddaughters; her mother, Maymie Wordlow; sisters Vivian Puckett, Debra Ann Billups, Linda Kirkland; brothers Darryl Wordlow, Donnie Wordlow, Gary Wordlow, Kenny Wordlow, Clarence Wordlow; best friend, Gilda Lewis; and a host of nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends.
