The ebbs and flow of the tide of life ended for James Paul Heyward and he moved to a more serene sphere in the Medical University Hospital, Columbia, SC on Sunday, November 19, 2023. James was born in Savannah, Ga, to the parentage of Jannie Mae Grant and James Paul Grant. In the home and loving embrace of Jack and Carrie Heyward in the community of Pocotaligo, James grew into adulthood. James attended the Jasper County Schools, and was a graduate of the Jasper County High School, Class of 1977. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps for several years. James was the recipient of: Rifle Expert Badge (x4), Good Conduct Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Meritorious Mast, and Letter of Appreciation. He was honorable discharged from his tour of duty.
For Most of his life, he was employed as a carpenter. James was the loving father of a son and two daughters. At his demise, he was a resident of Varnville, SC. Affectionately known as “Peanut” his footsteps are forever in the tapestry of time. His family, loved ones, and community shall never forget the times they shared and will treasure his memories.
Visitation: Tuesday November 28th 5 - 7 pm in the Chapel of Young Funeral Home, Yemassee, SC.
Funeral Service: Wednesday November 29th, Eleven o'clock in the morning In the Sheldon New Church of Christ, 12 Bray's Island Dr. Sheldon, SC. Burial in the Beaufort National Cemetery 1601 Boundary St. Beaufort, SC.
