In the setting of the sun on Monday, January 24, 2022, in the Veteran’s Victory House, Walterboro, SC, the Reverend Freddie Hamilton, 88, passed from these mortal shores to God’s eternal slumber. The Reverend Hamilton, the widower of Faye Hamilton, was the son of the late Deacon Adam Hamilton, Sr. and Sallie Brown Hamilton. Rev. Hamilton was the father of Freddie Hamilton, Jr. and S’Arellar Rowes. He was the last surviving sibling of ten children. A native of the Jonesville community of Yemassee, he was a graduate of the Shanklin High School, Beaufort, SC. He was a United States Army Veteran (Retired SSgt) and has fulfilled the ranks of a paratrooper and a decorated sharp shooter. He was decorated VietNam War Veteran: VietNam Service Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, and Vietnam Cross of Gallantry W/Bronze Stars. After leaving the military, he returned to his native home where he was instrumental in establishing the Jonesville Daycare Center and Boy Scouts Troop. In his youthful life he was a member of the Mt. Nebo Baptist Church, Yemassee, SC. Later he united with the First Freedom Baptist Church, Yemassee, SC under the leadership of the late Rev. John Brown. After a brief time with the Deacon’s Ministry, he was called to higher heights and took on the mantle to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ. Prior to his retirement in 2013, he had served for 27 years as the pastor of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, Pocotaligo, SC and for 25 years with the Rose Mary Baptist Church, Point South, SC. “Well done good and faithful servant. Thou have been faithful with a few things. I will make thee ruler of many things.” Never one to be idle, he was a fuel deliveryman for many years with the Gregory Oil Company.
Visitation: January 29, 2022 5-7 pm in the Chapel of Young Funeral Home. Funeral service will be on Sunday, January 30, 2022 one o’clock pm in the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, 3763 Bees Creek Road, Ridgeland, SC. Burial will follow in the First Freedom Baptist Church Cemetery, Yemassee, SC.
