Obituary For The Rev. Mingo Chisolm, Jr.

The peaceful transition from time to eternity came for the Rev. Mingo Chisolm, Jr., on Thursday July 15, 2021 in the Pruitt Healthcare Center, Estill, SC. Rev. Chisolm, 87, was the widower of Barbara Jackson Chisolm. A resident of Yemassee, he was a graduate of the former Yemassee Training School. He was a US Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. For many years he resided in the metropolis of NY where he was employed as a machinist. After retirement he returned to his native home. He continued employment as a machinist in the Hilton Head area. At a point, he ventured to be a dump truck driver. He was an ordained minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Rev. Chisolm has served as pastor for the First African Baptist Church and the St. Luke Baptist Church of Yemassee, SC. A community minded individual, he has campaigned for the position of Mayor of Yemassee. Rev. Chisolm was a volunteer for the food distribution program.

An articulate well-dressed gentleman, he was fond of "nice" cars and had an affinity for his collection of guns. He is survived by: grandson (reared in the home), Ty-Shawn Staton; son, Robert Smith (Natcha Chisholm); daughter, Janie Boles (Andy); step-daughter, Lana Staton; granddaughter, Shantelle Staton; brother, Ronald (Martha) Chisolm; brothers-in-law, Benjamin Jackson and Daniel Ginyard; sister-in-law, Lorine Jackson; 9 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; devoted nieces: Shennette Jackson, Carol Jackson, and Arennette Wheeler.

Visitation: Thursday, July 22, 5-7 pm in the Chapel of Young Funeral Home.

Final services with military honors: Friday, July 23, 12 o'clock noon in the Beaufort National Cemetery, 1601 Boundary St., Beaufort, SC.
