Nellie Hunter Lofton, 90, of Iron Station, North Carolina transitioned peacefully on Thursday, February 26, 2026 in her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Lincoln County, North Carolina on December 9, 1935 to the late Ulysses Hunter and Bessie Smith Hunter.
She was a faithful member of Tucker’s Grove church and served as the organist for many years.
She graduated from Newbold High School, Winston-Salem State Teacher’s College, (now Winston-Salem State University). She taught school in North Carolina, Washington, DC and Pensacola, Florida, retiring in 1990.
Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2026 at 12:00 noon at Tucker’s Grove Church with burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
There will be a public viewing on Friday, March 6th at the funeral home from 5:30 until 6:30 at the Funeral Home.

So sorry to hear about her passing. She was my fifth grade teacher at Brentwood elementary in Pensacola, Florida. 1984-1985). She was tough but fair, and I learned more that year in school than in any other. Thank you for being a great teacher. I pray for your family. Rest in heaven.

She was the last of my dad's siblings, and with her passing, the closing of a beautiful chapter in our family feels especially profound.
