Mr. Samuel Phillip Tucker, Sr., 89, of Newton, North Carolina transitioned peacefully on Monday, April 13, 2026 at his residence.
He was born in Caldwell County, North Carolina on February 16, 1937 to the late Carrie Bell Howard Tucker and Henry Tucker.
He received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Lenoir-Rhyne University in Hickory, North Carolina, and later retired as a counselor with the Department of Corrections.
Those left to cherish fond and loving memories are his children, Rosalind P. Tucker, Samuel Phillip Tucker, Jr., Regina (Smith Stephen) Tucker-Billups, Steven P. Tucker; two step-daughters, Robyn Tate and Karen Carey; a devoted and loving friend, Trudy Bess
A Memorial service will be held Friday, April 24, 2026 at 1:30 p.m. at Morning Star Baptist Church. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service.

Sam and Katherine was the first Neighbors I had the honour to live beside for a number of years on 7th st. Se. Sam would take my children with theirs in that Volks wagon to get ice cream. We was the second black family in that neighborhood. Well to make a long story short, they was a great friend he and his wife to live beside of. I am so sorry for the loss of Sam. Mr Tucker was a special neighbor to me and my family for so many years. I am missing seeing his blinds open letting me know he is ok... however I know he is ok with his Lord and Savior! Prayers for you all!!
