Obituary For Vernon Dysart

Mr. Vernon Romalle Dysart, 62, stepped into Eternity on January 23, 2026, at Catawba Valley Medical Center in Hickory, North Carolina, after an extended illness. He was born on May 29, 1963, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late Leslie and Loretta Jefferson Dysart, Sr. Vernon is predeceased by his parents, Leslie and Loretta Jefferson Dysart, Sr.; his wife Pamela Lorraine Sturgis-Dysart; his son Vernon Romalle Dysart, Jr.; his brother Leslie Dysart, Jr.; five uncles; one aunt; and his paternal and maternal grandparents.
Vernon grew up in the Ida B. Wells housing project in Chicago, graduated from Kenwood Academy High School and completed two years of college before moving to Charlotte, North Carolina, in the mid-1980s.

Since moving to the Charlotte Metro Area, Vernon was known as “Chicago” to his friends, neighbors, and coworkers. In the 1990s, he married Pamela Lorraine Sturgis-Dysart, and from that union, they had a son, Vernon Romalle Dysart, Jr., who stepped into Eternity as an infant. Vernon and Pamela lived in Concord, North Carolina, until she stepped into Eternity after a long illness. In 2021, Vernon moved from Charlotte, North Carolina, to Newton, North Carolina.

On December 9, 2012, Vernon committed to changing his life and entered a substance abuse program. Since then, he has continued attending weekly support group meetings, celebrated 10 years clean on December 9, 2022, and has remained clean for over 13 years. Vernon worked for various companies, BFI, Wainwright, Graybar and Ryder Systems as a truck driver. While at Ryder Systems, he completed the Commercial Truck Driver Training and received his CDL, and in 2023, he completed a Real Estate Investment Course.

Vernon lived life to the fullest. Once you meet him, you will never forget him. He loved music, especially the Chi-Lites, sports jerseys, sneakers, jewelry, shopping, family and friends. Vernon’s entertainment included Jeopardy, ESPN Sports, HGTV and more.

To cherish Vernon’s memories and keep his spirit alive are his brothers: Craig Dysart, Darewin (Lolita) Dysart, and William Jefferson, as well as cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, coworkers and a couple of special friends.
