Derrick had a passion for horses. He collected all things related to horses. One of his most exciting adventures was a trip to a horse ranch in Texas where he rode a horse for the first time. He enjoyed travelling as well as building with Lego sets. He was a Washington Commanders fan.

He leaves to cherish his memory his twin brother, Dwayne (Deborah) of Woodbridge, Virginia; sister, Sylvia (Marvin) of Flemington, New Jersey; sister, Delores of Manassas, Virginia and brother, Robert Jr. of Wilmington, Delaware.
