Obituary For Honorable James F. Council, Jr.

Notice of Earthly Transition: The Honorable James F. Council, Jr.

With profound respect and heartfelt sympathy, Harrington Funeral Home, Inc. announces the earthly transition of The Honorable James F. Council, Jr., who gently closed his eyes and departed this life on Thursday, August 13, 2026.

Judge Council was a distinguished attorney, respected jurist, and devoted public servant whose life’s work reflected wisdom, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to justice. Through his private practice and his honorable service on the bench, he touched countless lives and helped strengthen the communities he faithfully served.

A proud graduate of Fort Valley State University and Thurgood Marshall School of Law, Judge Council dedicated his professional journey to the law, to fairness, and to the betterment of others. His service as a judge for the Lowndes County Juvenile Court, along with his judicial leadership in surrounding courts, stands as a lasting testament to his character, his discipline, and his desire to make a meaningful difference.

Attorney • Jurist • Public Servant • Counselor at Law

A Distinguished Life. A Respected Legacy. A Lasting Honor.

There are lives that occupy a place in history because of the titles they carried. And then there are lives that give those titles meaning.

With profound respect and deep appreciation for a life of professional excellence, public service, legal distinction, and judicial stewardship, the family of The Honorable James F. Council, Jr. announces the day appointed to honor his life and commemorate a legacy that extended far beyond the courtroom.

The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at 1:00 PM from the historic and hallowed Historic Macedonia Baptist Church, located at 715 JL Lomax Drive, Valdosta, Georgia.

As an Attorney and Judge, the Honorable James F. Council, Jr. devoted himself to the principles upon which a just society depends—law, fairness, responsibility, advocacy, and the pursuit of justice. His professional journey placed him in positions of trust where decisions carried consequence and where integrity, wisdom, and discernment mattered.

He understood that the law was more than statutes and proceedings; it was about people. It was about families, communities, rights, responsibilities, and the pursuit of what is fair and right.

His service as a member of the legal profession and as a Judge represents a significant chapter in the story of his life. Yet beyond the bench and beyond the profession was a man whose greatest legacy will ultimately be measured in the lives he influenced, the counsel he offered, the doors he helped open, and the respect he earned through years of distinguished service.

THE FINAL ADJOURNMENT

On this day of farewell, we do not simply close a chapter—we pause to honor the record of a life well served.

Following the funeral service, the Honorable James F. Council, Jr. will be escorted to his Final Resting Place at Sunset Hill Cemetery.

There, surrounded by the solemnity of the moment, his earthly service will come to its appointed conclusion.

The courtroom has rendered its judgments. The legal arguments have been presented. The public service has been performed.

And now, the Honorable James F. Council, Jr. takes his final rest.

His earthly docket is closed.
His earthly service is concluded.
His legacy remains.

May his family find comfort in knowing that his name is forever connected to a life of purpose, service, achievement, and distinction. May the community remember not merely the offices he held, but the difference he made while holding them.

Rest well, Counselor.
Rest well, Your Honor.
Your service has been rendered, your legacy recorded, and your memory entrusted to the ages.

As family, friends, colleagues, and the community pause to remember a life so nobly lived, Harrington Funeral Home, Inc. is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements and will serve the Council family with dignity, care, and deep respect during this sacred time.

Send flowers to the service of Honorable James F. Council, Jr.

Our family extends our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Judge James Council.

Judge Council first came into our lives as the attorney who handled my father's probate. Through the conversations we shared with him during that time, our respect for him grew tremendously. He carried himself with such wisdom, professionalism, kindness and dignity that he left a lasting impression on our entire family.

His influence reached even further than he may have realized. My oldest son wants to become an attorney when he grows up and is making decisions at age 13 to put himself in a position to be a property owner like Judge Council was. Judge Council is one of the people who inspired that dream. To have impacted a young person simply by the way he lived and practiced his profession speaks volumes about the man he was.

We are also incredibly grateful for the encouragement he gave our family and for the fact that he genuinely wished for the success of our business. His kind words meant more to us than he likely knew. They are something we will always remember.

We pray that God surrounds Judge Council's family with comfort, strength and peace during this difficult time. May you find comfort in knowing that his life, his service and the example he set touched people far beyond the courtroom.

He will be remembered with great respect and gratitude by our family.

I am so sorry to hear James has passed. He was one of my favorite people. When I was at the Board of Elections, I needed some advice, and he came to my office and sat with me for almost 2 hours, thrashing out a solution. He also followed up with me to make sure everything was okay. He was so kind and sweet to me during a time when I was very stressed, and I have always appreciated his care and concern. Also, his advice was absolutely on point. He was a
