"Mrs. Johnnie Mae Houston, an Alabama Gospel Music Legend, will always hold a special place in my heart. She constantly encouraged me to use my musical ability to honor God and to inspire others. I remember when my first recording was nominated for an award, she made a personal trip to the radio station to tell me how proud she was. When I last saw her, she said these words: 'The only thing I hate about getting old is how soon people forget about you'. Sadly, I have now lived long enough to understand exactly what she meant. Family, please know that Mrs. Johnnie Mae will never be forgotten by me.."
God bless you all.
My condolences to the family I pray for comfort and strength and peace may God continue to bless you all GRACE and PEACE.

Dear Family of Ms. Johnny Mae Houston,
I'm so profoundly sorry for your loss. Her sweet voice carried not just melodies, but memories, faith, and the warmth of a family's love to every listener. As Opelika's cherished Gospel Songstress, and as she sang alongside her brother and my dad with the Starlight Gospel Singers, she bridged generations with the power of song and the grace of her spirit. I'll forever remember "O Mary Don't You Weep." Her theme song!
May you find comfort in the countless lives she touched, in the joyous songs she shared, and in the love that remains even when she's no longer here in body. May the memories of her radiant smile, her unwavering faith, and the harmony she brought into the world be a beacon of hope during this difficult time. Know that you are held in the thoughts and prayers of many who admired her, and who are grieving with you. May God grant you strength for today and peace for tomorrow, and may you feel Ms. Johnny Mae's presence in the quiet moments, in the music that lingers, and in the love that surrounds you always.
With deepest sympathy and heartfelt condolences, Prayerfully,
James W Strickland, PhD
