I was fortunate enough to work with Miss Betty at Central Regional Hospital. I immediately noticed her kindness and consideration to all the people we worked with. She was so optimistic and could make just about anyone laugh. It was not always an easy place to work but she seemed to take each day in stride and could brighten the room with her smile. My heart hurts to hear of Miss Betty's passing. My she rest in perfect peace and my her friends and family find comfort in remembering her for the wonderful women she was. Susan Carmichael Richard

My Codolences to the family of Deacon Bettie Bailey, Earth has no sorrow that Heaven can not heal. I was saddened to hear of the passing of my dear friend, coworker and mentor. Mrs. Bettie, as we affectionately called her, was the work mother to hundreds of employees at John Umstead Hospital and Central Regional Hospital. There was never a dull moment when in her presence. She was the epitome of a Virtuous Woman. May her legacy and love live on through here family & friends. Thank you family for sharing your mother with us. Deacon Richard & Marylin Keith
Wisdom Equals Understanding
There are a lot of wonderful things on this earth that God has given me to enjoy. I live in a beautiful world full of glorious trees, breath-taking mountains, immense oceans, fabulous sunsets, and on and on. Nature is splendid. Bright, sunny mornings with the birds singing and the dew sparkling on the grass are truly a gift of God. It is when I look at the world through the eyes of God that I come to appreciate just how special it is. Real wisdom is the knowledge of God and all His handiworks. I have been given life so that I may enjoy it. It is a gift from God. When I pursue God, and a deeper knowledge of His will, I am seeking a deeper understanding of all creation. There is nothing greater that I can desire than to see this world of ours through the eyes of the creator. In God's creation I can catch glimpses of God Himself. In prayer I need to remember to ask God to help me become wise as He is wise, and in so doing I will see beauty like I never knew it existed before, and I will appreciate life in a new and full way.
~ John 3:16 With Love always Mom.... Missing You and looking forward to seeing you soon. Son Hudie Smith III
