David Stewart Rogers, who was born on December 28, 1951, in Franklin County, North Carolina, to the late Eula Mangum and the late David Lee Alston. He entered eternal rest on May 10,2025.
From his earliest days, David carried a quiet strength and a gentle spirit that would leave a lasting impression on all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
David was educated in the Durham Public Schools and proudly graduated from Durham High School, Class of 1971. Throughout his life, he was known for his kind demeanor, his infectious smile, and his ability to light up a room with his warmth and sincerity. If David called you a friend, he truly meant it loyal, caring, and ever-present. A man of style and grace, David took great joy in dressing well, especially when it came to a finely matched suit.
He also found peace and fulfillment in the simple pleasures of life, such as tending to his yard and cheering on his favorite sports teams especially Duke basketball and football and listening to his quartet music.
David dedicated 25 years of service to Watkins Trucking, and after retirement, continued his hardworking ways with the City of Durham’s Public Works Department for another decade.
He was a man of quiet diligence and unwavering commitment in everything he pursued.
He is preceded in death by his beloved son, Reginald Rogers, his grandson Steve Rochelle Jr., his brothers Daniel Rogers and David Alston, and his sisters Marsha Mangum and Elnora Alston Henry.
David’s love lives on through his devoted wife, caregiver, and best friend of 28 years, Ruby Green Rogers, whose unwavering support was a cornerstone of his life. He also leaves behind two daughters, Laswanda Rogers-Owens (Willie) and Lashon Pennington (Reggie), as well as three stepchildren, Elbert Green (Chondra), Hamilla Rochelle, and Justin Green (Tiffany) — each of whom carries forward his legacy in their hearts and lives.
David is also lovingly remembered by his 10 siblings: Lenora Rogers, Phyllis Summers (Howard), Debolyn Ragland (Leon), Ethel Bryant (James), Richard Alston (Bonita), Toney Alston (Twanetta), Rodney Alston (Tracy), Garry Alston (Teresa), Carla Alston, and Albertina Alston — all of whom share cherished memories of a brother whose presence brought comfort, humor, and joy. He also leaves behind four in laws Clarice Green Poole, Pattie Conyers, Lois Green and Haywood Green (Mage) and A host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Though his physical presence is no longer with us, the memory of David Stewart Rogers will remain etched in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who were blessed to walk beside him. May we carry forward his kindness, his wisdom, and the beauty he brought into this world.
