On behalf of the Durham PROUD Program, Mr. Langley will be missed by the youth and community of Durham. Our deepest condolences are extended to his family.

The loss of DeWarren will be felt deeply by so many. He was a true servant leader — genuinely caring, giving, and guided by the principle, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."

DeWarren consistently put the needs of our youth first. His commitment to helping young people, especially young men, reflected his belief in their potential. He provided guidance, opportunities, and hope — inspiring them to pursue positive paths and see a brighter future for themselves.

DeWarren, thank you for your unwavering service and the lives you touched. Your work here is complete. Rest well, faithful servant. 🌹

Praying for the family of Mr. Langley and sending my sincere condolences. Mr. Langley was an incredible role model who helped bring my son out of his shell and into leadership through the Young Men of Excellence program. I will be forever grateful for his impact and the many programs he involved my son in; from finance, law and engineering to the recent Shelton Challenge at NC State. Thank you for everything you did to uplift boys of color in Durham. Your legacy will live on.

I was just told that my friend Dewarren's memorial will be tomorrow. Our paths crossed 16 years ago when he came to my opening day for Long Ball RBI baseball program. He introduced himself and said some of his kids were in my program. Every year he would return like clockwork to give me a donation and tell me to keep up the great work, and of course I would tell him to do the same. He told me my program was a form of mentoring to youths and asked me to join him at the city Counsil meeting to be honored with other community workers for National Mentoring Month. That's just like him always thinking of others. He will be missed in the Durham community, but all his hard work and dedication will be talked about for years to come. It's hard to believe he is gone. We really need more Dewarren Langley's in the world today! Humble, caring and of course giving when it came to people but mostly young men of color. It is with a heavy heart that I honor the life and legacy of DeWarren Langley. He lived with divine purpose—walking boldly in his calling to uplift, empower, and advocate for young people, especially our boys of color. DeWarren poured his heart into this community, and his light will continue to shine through every life he touched. Though we grieve his passing, we give thanks for the gift of his life, his legacy, and the inspiration he leaves for us to carry forward.

DeWarren and I meet 10 years ago and he had shown me he deeply cared for the success of young men of color. He was not just a mentor but a friend. He and I didn't see eye to eye everything when it came to life but I knew he was a good person. I'm saddened by his loss and he will be missed greatly. My condolences to the Langley family.

DeWarren and I served together for several elections at Precinct 8. He was the Chief Judge, and I was one of the other judges. We had a great time serving. He always wanted me to go get him a soda, as he never left his post. He shared some of his community activities but was not very forthcoming about who he truly was and the impact he had on the lives of so many in our beloved Durham. We both agreed that the natives of our county needed to be more engaged. He will be missed. He was a great leader and will continue to live on in our hearts and minds.

DeWarren loved the Durham community and volunteered his time to support youth and families. He was a thoughtful and caring leader in so many organizations and remained steadfast and hopeful. He will be missed and his legacy will live on in Durham. We are praying for his loved ones.

From his youth as a member of the West End Youth Organization and a participant in the Duke Community Stories projects, DeWarren Langley showed his calling for leadership. I am saddened to hear of this passing. Even as a student at Jordan High School he was outspoken and passionate about his beliefs and goals. I admired his courage and his conviction I pray that God will assuage the pain his family must feel and comfort them in the days and weeks ahead. Blessings 🙏.
