Rev. Dud Mitchell Lundy, Jr., 71, was born on Wednesday, December 16, 1953 and passed on Thursday, May 1, 2025.

Reverend Dud Mitchell Lundy, Jr. (Retired Lieutenant Colonel, US Army) of McKenney, VA, entered eternal rest on May 1, 2025, at his home in Durham, NC, surrounded by loved ones. Rev. Lundy was a man of quiet strength, enduring faith, and uncommon generosity. He gave selflessly to his family, his church, and his country. He believed deeply in purposeful living, and his life was a testament to that belief.

He was born on December 16, 1953, to Dud Lundy, Sr. and Mable Gilliam Lundy. He was preceded in death by his parents and four siblings: Vance, Camilla, Beverly, and Jacqueline.

Faith and purpose were central to his life from his earliest days. Baptized as a child at First Baptist Church in McKenney, VA, he began a lifelong journey rooted in Christian principles. Those values remained a steady guide in all he did. He embodied servant leadership.

Rev. Lundy graduated with honors from Dinwiddie County Senior High School and earned a bachelor’s degree from Virginia State College (now University) as a distinguished military graduate. There, he was an ROTC scholar, elected to Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges, and inducted into Virginia State’s Army ROTC Hall of Fame. These were early signs of the high achievement that would define his career.

He served more than 25 years in the US Army, specializing in field artillery and rising to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. His military record was marked by excellence and distinction. Among his many honors were the Defense Meritorious Service Medal and the Meritorious Service Medal—each awarded for exceptional performance in roles of significant responsibility. He also received the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, and Overseas Service Ribbon, along with the Parachutist Badge. His induction into the Honorable Order of Saint Barbara, bestowed on individuals who meet the highest standards of integrity and performance in field artillery, reflected the deep respect of his peers. He retired with the Legion of Merit, one of the military’s highest awards, recognizing a career of sustained, exceptionally distinguished service.

Rev. Lundy’s military training was extensive and elite. He completed coursework at the Army War College (Select), the Command and General Staff College, and held advanced field artillery and leadership certifications. He also earned a Master of Public Administration from Webster University and a Master of Arts in Business Administration from the University of Oklahoma.

While stationed at Fort Jackson in Columbia, SC, his final post, Rev. Lundy continued his longstanding involvement in ministry. There, he served faithfully in various capacities at the Main Post Chapel, including in a prison ministry, men’s fellowship, the choir, and wherever volunteers were needed.

After retiring from active duty, Rev. Lundy pursued his religious calling formally, attending seminary at Columbia International University and becoming an ordained minister. He served as an Associate Pastor at Sutton Branch Baptist Church in Lugoff, SC and later taught Sunday School and ministered as the English-speaking Pastor at Carolina Korean Presbyterian Church in Columbia, SC. Whether in pulpit or Bible study, he brought the same devotion, care, and humility that had marked his military service.

His commitment to service continued in the civilian realm. Passionate about mentoring the next generation, Rev. Lundy taught cadets in Darlington County, SC Public Schools through the Army JROTC program. He also served as a Professor of Military Science at South Carolina State University where his instruction combined discipline, compassion, and moral leadership. Rev. Lundy subsequently served in additional roles with the Department of Homeland Security, Department of Veterans Affairs, and the Directorate of Plans, Training, Mobilization, & Security (DPTMS). In recognition of his continued contributions to national defense, the US Army awarded him the Achievement Medal for Civilian Service and the Commander’s Award for Civilian Service.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Myong-Hui Lundy; cherished daughters, Daisy (Tim) Lovelace and Victoria Lundy; and much-adored granddaughter, Lillian Lovelace. He is also survived by his brother, Gregory (Diane) Lundy and additional siblings through marriage, Mark and Kumhi Dallman, Kyung Duk and Young Jin Bang, and Chang Kook and Yang-Hui Sohn; parents through marriage, David and Sun Hester; and a large and loving extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends—including a close-knit brotherhood from his days at Virginia State.

The Lundy family will hold a graveside service on May 8, 2025, in Durham, NC. The Celebration of Life and Memorial Service will be held on June 14, 2025, in Columbia, SC.
