Ernest Darrall Thompson, Jr., 84, was born on Wednesday, January 24,1940 and passed on Tuesday, October 1, 2024.

He will be truly missed ..he was quite a part of my life..10 years..still friends after all these years later. we both went through some very stormy challenges and heartache but seemed to come together at the right time and that we grew together .".and were I believe. we quite a help to each other.". one thing I'll never forget is him always getting on his knees to pray !!β€οΈ!I know that he loved his friends it meant a lot to him just to be around the ""fellows"" his work.. and in his spare time he loved boating.. fishing.camping.. trying his hand at the lotto. ""Do you know he did win quite a good sum"" back many many years ago .. I think I remember that is when he told me that he & Mary brought their first motorhome. One of our first outings was going to Virginia to buy lottery tickets..U no that's when u still had to go to Virginia to buy lottery tickets'' North Carolina still didn't have it.. He was a good man that worked very hard I will miss him. ππ My condolences to the family and may ur favorite memories of him stay in your heart and in your mind and share his little antics and funny stories.. you know how he loved reminiscing sitting with ""fellows ""and his favorite drink in his hand.. he also was a lover of music ..old school ..but especially that liquor house music.βΊοΈπβΊοΈ. beach music. and of course π blues ..HE faced many challenges and of course .the racial divide in our country. He would tell me many stories of different events that stood out to him as a overcomer and achiever he showed that your color of your skin should not hinder you.. Earnest and Mary overcame so many obstacles and made such a great life for themselves.. quite a couple to look up to and inspires and mirror πβ€οΈβ€οΈ. I think that he helped inspire quite a few people over his lifetime with all the things that he accomplished as a business owner and homeowner boat owner. RV owner. and all the clubs that he was in he was quite a busy man I feel honored that I had just a little fraction of his knowledge and affection ... My respects and sympathy for all his friends and family when you remember him..I hope he brings you a smile and warm feeling in your heart.. I'm sure each and every one of you he has touched in some way..To"" Ernest..I Hope to see you again one day.. you will bring me smiles...tears.. My sincere condolences to the Thompson family. Ernest and Mary traveled extensively with my late husband, Sampie and me in our Motor Homes from the East to the West Coast. He was a devoted member of our HHS class of 58 and will be missed . To the family, stay strong and remember the memories of Ernest. Naomi Atwater

The Erwinwood Community is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of one of it's long time residents. Ernest and Mary were one of the earliest families to move onto Yellowstone Drive and he is the resident that has continued to live on Yellowstone for the longest period of time. He will be missed.
