Celebrating the Life of Helen Louise Davis-Adams

Sunrise, April 3, 1968 – Sunset, October 14, 2026

A Heart of Gold. A Beautiful Smile. A Love That Lives Forever.

Helen Louise Davis was born on April 3, 1968, in New Haven, Connecticut, to the late Tyrone Deans and R'Wanda Gibbs. She graduated from James Hillhouse High School in 1986 and later earned her Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Mount Olive, reflecting her commitment to education, personal growth, and lifelong learning.

Early in her career, Helen worked as a Parent Educator at Lincoln-Bassett Community School. In 1999, she relocated with her family to Durham, North Carolina. She later joined Duke University Medical Center, where she held multiple positions throughout her career, ultimately serving as a Program Specialist in the Heart Transplant Department. Her professional journey reflected her dedication, determination, and commitment to helping others.

A Woman with a Heart of Gold

Helen will be remembered for her beautiful smile, unforgettable laugh, and generous spirit. She was the family comedian and the person everyone could call for advice. Known as the family's human diary, she was a trusted confidante who listened without judgment and offered support whenever someone needed her. Helen had a heart of gold and would do anything for anybody.

Helen was a fashionable woman who loved her jewelry and stylish glasses. She took pride in her appearance and had a unique sense of style. She was also eager to learn and enjoyed using her creativity and skills to help others, particularly through creating resumes and web pages. A passionate sports fan, Helen proudly supported Duke and the Dallas Cowboys.

Her Faith and Service

Helen had a deep love for God, and her faith was an important part of her life. She often spoke about God, prayed for others, and encouraged those around her through Scripture. Her faith was reflected in her kindness, generosity, and willingness to help others.

Helen was a devoted member of Greater Love Worship Center, where she served since 2012. She was actively involved in the First Lady's Armor Bearer Team, Women's Ministry, Medical Team, and Youth Outreach at a KIPP charter school. Through her faith and service, Helen demonstrated her love for God and her desire to make a difference in the lives of others.

Her Greatest Blessing: Family

Helen recently married Shelton Adams Jr. and treasured her family above all else.

She leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband, Shelton Adams Jr.; her children, Jimmy Davis (Latonya), Showanda Davis-Keith (Anthony), and Darrin Graham; her stepson, Jaron White; and her beloved grandchildren, Jayden Perry, Jamez Davis, Jayce Keith, Diamond Thompson, Miana Thompson, Anthony Keith Jr., Jemere White, Jordan White, and Jade White.

She is also survived by her siblings, Dr. Anthony J. Davis (Dr. Jacqueline), Tanya Gibbs-Scott (Mark), and Walter Gibbs, Jr. (Caroline); her half-sister, Deliah Burton; her half-brother, Victor Morrow; and her cherished god-sisters, Doris Campbell and Robin Payne. She also leaves behind her nieces, Maya, Deja, and Jade; her nephews, Brandon and Montrell; and a host of extended family members and loved ones.

Helen shared strong and loving bonds with her aunts and uncles. She also shared an especially close and treasured bond with her cousin, Cecelia.

Helen shared many special friendships throughout her life, including a special bond with her dear friend, Robin Patterson. While we cannot name each friend individually, please know that you know who you are and the special place you held in her heart. Your love, friendship, laughter, and shared memories meant more to her than words could ever express. You were a cherished part of her life, and she loved you dearly.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, R'Wanda Y. Gibbs and Walter G. Gibbs, and her biological father, Tyrone Deans.

Forever in Our Hearts

Helen gained her heavenly wings on October 14, 2026, at her home in Timberlake, North Carolina. Her life was a testament to kindness, laughter, faith, and unconditional love. She made people feel valued, offered a listening ear when it was needed most, and left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her.

Though her earthly journey has ended, the love she gave, the faith she carried, and the memories she created will continue to live on through her children, grandchildren, family, and friends.

Her smile will never be forgotten, her laughter will forever echo in our memories, and her heart of gold will remain with us always.

Rest peacefully, Helen. You were loved beyond measure and will be missed beyond words.
