Jacqueline Irene Timberlake Goss was born in Granville County, North Carolina on May 3, 1926 and departed this life at South Point Rehabilitation Center on February 1, 2026, marking the close of nearly a century of life. She was the sixth of nine children born to the late Eugene "Babe" and Lizzie Mae Jones Timberlake.
Irene was educated in the Durham County School System and graduated from Little River High School. For many years she was a faithful employee of Duke University. Irene was joined in holy matrimony to the late George "Lee" Washington Goss. At an early age, Irene became a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church and later moved her membership to the Mount Level Missionary Baptist Church. Irene was passionate about her service to the Lord. She sang in the Mount Level Senior Choir and served as a missionary for many years and was a devoted member of the Eugene Timberlake Sunday School Class. Irene dearly loved her church family, her Pastor and was the oldest living member of Mount Level Missionary Baptist Church. Irene loved people and cherished her family. She enjoyed talking to everyone and sharing stories from her childhood. Sitting on her front porch and talking was one of her favorite things to do. She particularly relished in recalling memories from her childhood, playing and making mischief with her brothers. Irene loved her family and until her health declined she cooked Saturday morning breakfast for her brother, sisters, nieces and nephews and church family. Irene also enjoyed hosting family and friends for Christmas Eve dinner.
Irene was preceded in death by her husband George Goss, brothers Burrus Timberlake, Grady Timberlake, Richard D. Timberlake, Sr., Julian Carr Timberlake, John Hoover Timberlake, sisters Elizabeth Timberlake, Grace T. Hayes, and Clara T. Evans. Our beloved Irene leaves many fond memories to be cherished by her multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
