James Wesley Alston, Jr (“Bro”) was born on July 23, 1954 in Durham, Nc. He departed this life on Monday December 8, 2025 following a brief illness. James was the oldest son of James Wesley Alston Sr and Anne Elizabeth Rhodes Alston who both preceded him in death.
James has been married to Donna Bailey Alston for over 41 years . They built a life centered around love, celebrating milestones and supporting one another through every challenge. Their devotion was evident to all who knew them, as Donna often lovingly referred to him as her “Boo” and James referred to her as his “ride or die”.
James was educated in the Durham Public School system and graduated from Hillside High School in 1972. Following high school, he joined the US Army. Following his discharge from the army, he worked at American Tobacco company for 9 years and GKN automotive for 20 years until his retirement in 2016.
James stood tall and was often a quiet man but he spoke with wisdom and intelligence. He was honest, with a thirst for knowledge, always seeking to challenge his own (and others’) ways of thinking. He enjoyed friendly debates and conversations on several topics including race, politics and history. He also enjoyed spending time painting and working outdoors in his yard. He was a huge sports fan and was a die hard fan of the Dallas Cowboys.
In addition to his wife, James leaves to cherish, 3 sisters and 5 brothers; Phyllis Walker, Jackie McNair(Preston), Valerie Kelly, Ricky Alston(Sadie), Larry Alston(Felecia), Warren Alston(Bionka), Reginald Alston, and Kevin Alston(Elspeth) of Rancho Cucamonga, California. He also leaves several nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins and friends.
