A Time to Be Born- On March 2, 1941, Joe Nathan "Joe-Boy" Cook was born to the late Sam and Eliza Cook, natives of Screven County Georgia. He spent his early years in Dover, Vidalia, and Glennville, Ga.
A Time to Love- Joe eventually moved to New York, and settled in New Rochelle where he met the love of his life, Coreatha "Chip" Jenkins, and they married on December 30, 1967. He raised a family of four children; three daughters and one son. He extended his love and support to many other family members with great joy. As his son so gracefully added, "He lived for his family. He was married to my mother for 55 years, and I got to witness Black Love throughout my 47 years on this earth."
A Time to Live- Joe worked as a Machinist in Mt. Vernon, NY prior to the company moving out of state. He accomplished his dream of becoming an entrepreneur, working as a General Contractor. He loved remodeling and improving the looks of homes, churches, office buildings and more. One of his favorite phrases was "It's going to cost you a lot of money!" He took great pride in his work and would only use quality products to serve his customers well.
A Time to Worship- Joe was a born again Christian and a devoted Deacon with longstanding membership at Beulah Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ (COOLJC) in Bed-Stuy Brooklyn, New York; later at Eagles Rise Church in Chapel Hill, NC; and Church at the Park in Durham, NC. Joe believed in Jesus Christ and was not ashamed to let others know that Jesus is the only way to God.
A Time to Reunite- Joe was preceded in death by four siblings: Sam Cook, John Cook, James Cook, and Lizzie Cook-Moody; and a grandson, Brenden Riggsbee.
A Time to Die- Joe departed this life on October 31, 2023, in the comfort of his home in Durham, North Carolina with his devoted wife and son by his side.
A Time to Mourn- Joe leaves to cherish his loving and unforgettable memory, first and foremost his loving wife Coreatha, whom he adored; three daughters: Swayzene (Kevin), Lisa Ware, Phyllis Ware; and one son, Shahidi "Shawn" Cook; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and a host of family and friends.
