Tyna’s journey began September 23, 1958, in the Oakmont Circle community of Durham, NC. On Wednesday, October 22, 2025, she passed from Labor to Reward at her home, at the age of 67. Tyna is the second child of Fred and Marva Dowdy, who preceded her in death.
She was born at North Carolina Memorial Hospital, now called the UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill, NC.
Tyna attended Jordan High School, Durham, NC. She continued her education at Rutledge College and Florida Technical Institute, where she studied to be a Medical Records Technician. After her schooling, Tyna did what she loved; caring for the elderly. She worked for years as a Personal Care Assistant, with A-Plus Quality Home Care.
Tyna was baptized, as a child, at the Greater Saint Paul Missionary Baptist Church where she served in the children’s choir and the young adult choir. She later attended the Orange Grove Missionary Baptist Church until she became ill.
Tyna is preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Marva Dowdy and sibling, Ronnie Dowdy (Glenda).
She leaves to cherish her memory, a brother, Glenn Dowdy (Lynn), loving niece and nephews, Ronald Dowdy, Robert Dowdy (Diandra), Alisha Dowdy Smith (Bryan), Glenn Dowdy Jr.; loving great-nieces, Jayla Dean Dowdy, and Cienna Kai Smith; and a host of Uncles, Aunts, relatives and friends.

Oh Tyna what can I say. We met in the first grade and were friends through graduation, Charles E. Jordan High, 1976.What I can say is you always walked the beat of your own drum never being swayed in any direction. your journey of life has ended but the journey of eternity has began. Rest in perfect peace.
My condolences to Tyna and the family.I'll miss you at work and talking on the phone for about two hours, laughing and talking about the movies that we need to watch on t.v.
