Formerly of West Orange

Doris Elizabeth Harris (née Woodruff) entered into rest February 4, 2024 in Forest Hills, New York. Born in Birmingham, Alabama, Doris and her family relocated to Detroit, Michigan where she attended university and began a career as a Registered X-Ray Technologist at the U.S. Public Health Service Hospital in Detroit.

She relocated to New York City where she met and married Henry E. Harris, a Medical Officer with the U.S. Public Health Service Hospital on Staten Island. They relocated to West Orange, New Jersey where her husband began a private practice in Neurology and Internal Medicine.

She was a proud member of The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists; The Auxiliary to The National Medical Association, North Jersey Chapter; and the Essex County (NJ) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated.

Doris is predeceased by her beloved spouse of 42 years, Henry E. Harris, MD; parents Annabelle and Sanford M. Woodruff, Sr.; stepfather Bud Allgood; brothers William M. Woodruff, Sanford M. Woodruff, Jr. and Charles Woodruff; and sisters Geraldine Woodruff Grier, Lois Woodruff Carpenter and Lucille Woodruff. She is survived by her children Lisa F. Harris and Linda L. Harris, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
