Sidney Richard Wilson (Sid) was born in Newark, New Jersey on May 5, 1947 to Thomas and Edythe Wilson. On March 27, 2021, Sidney went home to be with the Lord. What a greeting Sidney must have received from his father, mother, brothers Gilbert and Ronald, sister-in-law Laura, aunts Berchie McGhee and Lucille Ross, and uncles Harold Wilson and George Ross.

Sid was known as the “bright one “of the family who loved to joke and bring laughs to the family. He loved math, science, reading, and sharing knowledge and news with family and friends. Sidney spent all of his life in Newark. He was an active church member as a youngster and graduated from Weequahic High School. Sid worked with his brother, Gilbert, at Petty’s Drug Store. Sid also worked at Elegant Eyes as well as many other odd jobs. He made friends throughout the city of Newark and lived the last 18 months safe at Alaris Health at Essex in Irvington.

Our family lost contact with Sid for many years, his whereabouts unknown. Through the grace of God, two days before his passing, the Slaughter Family located Sidney’s niece Erica. Sidney was unconscious and gravely ill at Newark Beth Israel Hospital. Erica went to the hospital to see him that Friday and she and LeMoyne were able to speak with doctors. Our family believes that Sidney heard that conversation and the voices of his family which filled him with peace. That Saturday, March 27th, after a tireless battle with cancer, Sidney peacefully passed away.

Sidney will be missed by his sister, LeMoyne (Lonnie) Robinson; sister-in-law, Essie Christmas; nephews, Glenn Wilson, Lamar Robinson, and Ryan Wilson; nieces, Erin Byrd, Erica Walker, and Lauren Lawrence; cousins, the Garrett and Travis Families; the Slaughter Family and many other friends.

On April 28, 2021, Sidney’s ashes will be laid to rest alongside his mother Edythe, at Evergreen Cemetery in Hillside, New Jersey where they will rest in eternal peace.
