Mrs. Barbara Brewton Nesbitt, more affectionately known as “Mama” and “Mee-Maw”, was born March 29, 1936 in Hendersonville, North Carolina. On September 5, 2021, “Mama” received her wings, when God called His “Angel” from her “Earthly Home” to her “Heavenly Home.” She departed this life at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Robin and William Dease, while living in Columbia, SC.
Barbara was the daughter of the Late Odon and Florea Brewton. At an early age, after living in North Carolina, the family relocated to Spartanburg, South Carolina. It is there Barbara would receive her formal education. She attended school in the Spartanburg County Public School System. She accepted the Lord Jesus Christ, at an early age and would continue to serve Him in her adult life.
After matriculating through school, Mrs. Nesbitt met and married the Late Clarence “Tug” Williams, and of this union five children were born: two daughters, Clarissa Williams Giles, Robin Williams Dease (William), both of Columbia and three predeceased sons, Torazes “Doc” Williams, Clarence Bernard “Nardy” Williams, and John Williams. Barbara would later meet and marry the Late Lewis Nesbitt.
Mrs. Nesbitt was a member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, located in Spartanburg, South Carolina. She utilized her voice and sang in the Senior Choir. She also served as a member of the Senior Missionary Society and The Thompson Street Sympathy Club.

You weren't only my brother Jawnn grandma you were mine too. Although it has been many years since we saw one another the kindness and your smile is never forgotten. Until we meet again. May God comfort you all and memories dry your tears and allow you to smile from the love she shared and left in your hearts.
My sincere condolences to the family of a kind and generous woman. I will never forget her allowing me to ride to Baltimore as a nursing student, with Clarissa and her. Often Clarissa would ride to Greenville from Tuskegee with me. Mrs Barbara would drive to my home to pick Clarissa up. I will always remember that beautiful smile! Remonia Ashmore
