Christopher "Chris" Jeter-Chandler, the son of Debra Jeter Hays and Herbert Lee Chandler, was born July 24, 1986 in Columbia, South Carolina. He was raised in Spartanburg, SC and lived a full, highly regarded life across the globe.
Chris served and retired from the U.S. Army after 14 years of service (2005-2019), serving multiple deployments and health-care related job assignments. Chris graduated from Spartanburg High School, American Military University (Bachelor of Science and Masters of Public Health), and University of Southern California (Masters in Social Work). He was a Social Worker and took his role as a Black Mental Health professional very seriously. He was also a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
Chris loved cooking, traveling, and shopping. When he wasn’t volunteering and helping others, he was trying out new recipes, looking for the next city to explore, and/or adding to his Nike Foamposite collection. In fact, we had all come to expect his shirt, shoes, and hat to be the exact matching shade. His expectations were always high and he always understood the assignment.
Chris loved his family dearly, most recently returning home to Spartanburg to make up for lost time. He is survived by: both parents (mentioned above); one sister: Stephanie Jeter; three brothers: Stephen Jeter, Derious (Shawnta) Chandler, and Adrian Chandler;Ryan Swinton (partner); seven nephews; one niece; two aunts and five uncles; and a host of loving, loyal cousins.
He is predeceased by: Mary Louise Jeter (maternal grandmother), Helen Chandler (paternal grandmother), Isaiah McDowell (paternal grandfather), Michael Jeter (uncle), Kenneth Jeter (uncle), and Daniel Chandler (uncle).
Chris also leaves in cherished memory: Donna Chandler (honorary mother), six honorary sisters: Kierra, Jamyia, Maggie, Tara, and Wanda, and Sheena. And three honorary brothers: Jordan, SayQuan and Brandon.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, January 26, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at The John Stinson Woodward Memorial Chapel, 602 Howard St., Spartanburg, SC. Burial will be in the Lincoln Memorial Gardens, Spartanburg, SC.

Oh and remember when we split the payment for a LAN line in Germany and when your mom would call all she would say when I answered was "Chris" and would say hang in and I would have to bang on your door to tell you your mom was on the phone. So so many memories man! Aaron johnson
Chris, we first met in basic training and talk about two differences of opinions colliding. As we both got to know each other and you followed me to AIT, then Germany, then to Iraq, back to Germany, then Iraq again and then once more back to Germany we grew close. I learned a lot from you and I hope it was the same for you. I could write a novel with all the memories we made whether it was driving in Iraq or when you cussed out SFC Swartwood on the land nave course(which I thought was hilarious). I will cherish the memories for the rest of my life and you will be missed!
I had the pleasure of working with this wonderful young man I encountered as his Platoon Leader. Christopher left a big impact on me because his work ethic was absolutely impeccable. I met Christopher in Iraq and the rest is history. The only thing I can offer to his family is to say he was loved by everyone he came into contact with. We will all miss him. Even now typing this simply brings tears to my eyes. Continue to S.I.E.P Christopher.

My sincere condolences to the Jeter and Chandler families. I taught Chris and his siblings at Cleveland Elementary as their music teacher. They were very respectful students and they were their mothers' number 1 priority. May God surround you with His peace and love during this difficult time. Mrs. Barbara Wilson

Chandler had a such a kind soul and was a great person to work with in Kansas. He enjoyed life and lived it without regrets. Rest in Peace Battle!
We went to war together bro....Im having a hard time accepting this. You were a bright light in the darkest of times. They don't make friends like you often. You will be deeply missed
Sometimes folks come into your life for only a short period and make the greatest impression. When I got the message, I couldn't believe it.. I wrote you a note on facebook, hoping in vain it was all a joke. Then I realized we hadn't spoken in a number of years, which seemed crazy bc it felt like recently we were back at Ft Riley riding around in your truck talking life. I bet if I had seen you recently, we wouldn't have missed a beat. That's how easy going and friendly you were. I will miss you my good brother and be thinking of you. Till that time
CJ, We connected the moment we met each other. You had such a sweet soul, positive energy and a smile, that you could not help but to smile back at you. I enjoyed teasing you on joining me to work on the unit. You finally accepted my challenge and came over. You rocked it and told me you loved the unit! I said " I told you so and asked when you were coming back to join me again on the unit"? You smiled at me , and said " I don't Know" & walked out the door. I could not have imagine that it would be my last interaction with you. Rest well friend, you done well on the unit.. - Angel
You brought joy to many. You will be missed. My deepest condolences goes out to the family and friend of CJ.
