David, I remember your energy, your smile and laugh. You were so full of life! We were classmates at Carver High. So much time has gone by but those high school memories will always remain in my heart. I'm proud to have known you and to hear about the amazing life that you led, and the lives that you touched. You will be missed. You made me laugh, every time you joked about Coca-Cola and a pack of peanuts! I never knew that it was a southern thing until I got older. Lol. Thank you for being a good friend. I'll always remember you! Rest in peace. Your friend and Classmate, Jacqueline Howard Etheredge
To the Smith family,
We extend my deepest condolences as you grieve the loss and celebrate the life of David Smith, Jr.
Our family bears witness to David's quiet and consistent faithfulness through service. I came to know him as someone who showed up with kindness, steadiness, and a joyful spirit. Often behind the scenes, without seeking recognition, he brought joy in very human ways—especially through his love of food and hospitality. Though he was, hands down, the best cook, he always made room for others. And during a season when my small family needed support, David offered practical care and encouragement that made a lasting difference in our lives.
As I reflect now, I see how David's life embodied what it means to serve others with humility, dignity, and love. His impact reached farther than he likely knew, and his legacy lives on through the people he supported and the community he strengthened.
God bless your family. And may you find comfort in knowing that his life bore good fruit, and the gifts that he freely gave will continue to ripple outward!
Firmly rooted in faith and hope, deirdra and imani

Dear Sister Jackie, Our hearts are deeply saddened because of the sudden passing of your beloved husband, David. Losing someone so dear—someone who has walked beside you in love and partnership is a grief that words can hardly hold. Please know that your church family is surrounding you with prayer, love, and strength. We are standing with you, asking God to wrap you in His comfort and to give you moments of peace in the midst of this overwhelming sorrow. Your husband's life touched many, and his memory will continue to shine through the love he shared and the impact he made. May the God who is near to the brokenhearted hold you close, steady your steps, and remind you that you are not walking this valley alone. If you need anything—prayer, support, or simply someone to sit with you, we, your church family, are here for you. We love you and we want you to know that this offer has no expiration date. My condolences and prayers for you and your family in your time of bereavement !
My prayers and condolences are with the Smith family. David was a dedicated Poll Clerk and he really enjoyed his work and the voters. May he rest in peace.
Rest in Jesus, Mr. David. You were more than a former coworker at the Beacon, you were someone who genuinely looked out for me. I'll always remember your warm smile, your kindness, those heartfelt hugs, and the same genuineness when I would see you at the voter poll. You had a way of making people feel seen and welcomed, and that will never be forgotten. Praying comfort, peace, and strength for your family and all who loved you. Your presence truly made a difference. 🕊️
My sympathy goes out to Jackie and the family. David D. was a dear friend and classmate. A joker to say the least; he'll be missed dearly by all. We'll just never know when that time comes. Last Thursday when we set in the church weight room and joked about life's ins and outs.. Never; did I ever imagine that - that would be the last time that I would ever see 👀 David alive; I would have told him that I loved him - a true Carver High alumni. My he rest in peace. "PEACE BE WITH THEE." .space head.
