Mr. Eugene Williams, Sr. was a native of Spartanburg, South Carolina. He was the son of the late Mr. Curtis Williams, Sr. and Mrs. Savannah Bobo Williams. Eugene was a 1960 graduate of Carver High School. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Benedict College in Columbia, SC and a Master’s Degree from Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland. His educational career included Carver High School, Lincoln High School and Dawkins Middle School. Although Eugene knew many of his students, when they crossed the threshold of his classroom he did not expect any more or less of them. He was a master math instructor and knew his content extremely well. He retired after 30 years of service with Spartanburg County School Systems. Eugene accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age. He was a member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church. His mother, Mrs. Savannah, always made sure her children attended church and Sunday school regularly. He was a former member of the Sunday School Department, Trustee Ministry, and Missionary Ministry. Eugene was a “Good Man”. He was gentle, quiet, peaceful, loving, always willing to help and serve anyone in need. Eugene took pride and pursued a spirit of Excellency in all endeavors. Regardless of where you encountered him, his demeanor was always the same. Eugene had “big” heart for the youth. He was active in Highland community and worked tirelessly at the Bethlehem Community Center. His work at the community center included camp counselor, Boy Scouts of America, little league sports’ coach and tutor. The Highland Community was blessed and honored to have a strong black role model in their midst. Eugene’s greatest hobbies were playing and attending minor and major league sporting events. His favorite professional team was the LA Dodgers. Anytime the opportunity presented itself he traveled with his brother, Theodore, to Atlanta to see their favorite team. Eugene’s children and grandchildren were dear to his heart. He spent much time and effort guaranteeing all their needs was met. He leaves to cherish fond and loving memories: one son, Mr. Eugene (Kiara) Williams, Jr. of Dayton, Ohio; two daughters, Mrs. Meka (Gregory, Jr.) Scott and Mrs. Yolanda (Howard, Sr.) Dawkins; five brothers: Mr. Curtis Williams, Jr., Mr. Lassie (Vernita) Williams, Mr. Theodore Williams, Mr. Kenneth Williams, Mr. Timothy (Sharon) McCreary; two sisters: Mrs. Juanita W. Eugene was predeceased by a sister, Larcey Mae Williams and two brothers, Otis Stinson Williams and Randolph Williams. Eugene lived an active and productive life until his recent illness. During this time the family was truly blessed by Theodore Williams, his brother, as the primary caregiver. Eugene will be sincerely missed by family and friends. . Uncle Gene you are missed dearly. To know you was to love you. You were an awesome dad, brother, and uncle. You made single parenting look easy. You definitely rocked. God judges man upon the heart and you definitely had a heart of gold that's only one of the many reasons I know you're in a better place. I will never forget the times that you helped me. I love you and miss you. Love, your niece.

To the family, I express my condolences for your loss. Mr. Williams was my teacher when I was younger. He was the nicest, kindest teacher that I had the pleasure of knowing. To his children, I am so sorry for the loss of your father. Gene was TRULY a GREAT father and Grandfather. He was a perfect example of what a father should be! To his siblings, sorry for the loss of A GREAT brother. Gene was a Sweet Loving man, from the moment I was introduced to him in 1995, he welcomed me with open arms and a smile as his niece. I will always remember him saying something and laughing after. I had the honor to be in his presence during some of the last weeks of his life and he still had a smile on his face. May God give you all the Strength to face the difficult days, weeks and months ahead.
With Sincere Sympathy,
Martha Lindsey Williams

To the family of Mr Williams, I was a student of his in middle school. I have always remembered him encouraging me to not give up when I was stuck on a problem. I pray that you have the necessary strength and peace as you prepare to say "so long" to your father, brother, grandfather, etc. He was a wonderful example of educational excellence, and he tried to instill that in his students. Thank you for sharing him with his students, Jacqueline Lyles Kersey DHS 82
