With grace and dignity, Dorothy Louise Maben Potter transitioned from this life on December 29, 2024, in Augusta, Georgia, at the age of 81. Born on August 15, 1943, in Augusta, Georgia, Dorothy was the cherished daughter of Noy Maben (Berlon Anthony) and Jennie Maben (Carrie Cook). She was a proud graduate of the Class of 1962 from Lucy Craft Laney High School and later attended Paine College. Dorothy pursued her passion in science through the MCG Histology Training Program, eventually becoming a Certified Histologist. Her dedication to her craft led to an impressive career, retiring as the Histology Supervisor at Ft. Eisenhower Army Medical Center, where she served with distinction for over 40 years. Dorothy was a devoted wife to Charles Potter, Sr. (Ret. Sgt. Major, Army) and the loving mother of Charles Potter, Jr. and Brandon Potter. She also leaves behind her siblings: Leon Maben, Rodney M. Brown, Vanita McKinnie, Dennis Cook, Bobby (Cleo) Anthony and Harriet Martin, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and family members. Preceding her in rest are her husband, siblings Betty Ann Young, George Dunn, and Alfreddie Cook. A special mention is extended to her dear friend, Denise King, for her unwavering friendship and support. Dorothy had a warm and nurturing spirit, mentoring aspiring histology students and touching countless lives through her guidance and generosity. A member of Trinity C.M.E Church, Dorothy also enjoyed traveling supporting the Laney Museum and indulging in her favorite pastimes of reading newspapers and magazines, shopping, and watching soap operas. Her life is a testament to service, love, and excellence. Dorothy will be fondly remembered for her wisdom, her kindness, and her commitment to her family and community.

The extended Maben and Potter families, as well as our wider beloved communities have been fortunate to share the beautiful life of Mrs. Potter. Dorothy is a woman of "pure gold," worthy of every accolade. Along with abundant, exquisite qualities for which she is often praised, her sense of personal courage is not to be overlooked. Her assertive application to Augusta College was denied during the age of racial segregation. However, her dreams of a career in zoology were otherwise nurtured through innovative state policies to open doors to capable people in the field of histology.Think of the medical lives diagnosed, treated, and saved through the application of her proficient skills. Her profession rose to a calling to serve humanity. Mrs. Potter's success provided gateways to others in many realms of society towards the flourishing of empowerment, culture, and optimism. Thank you for your gifts to us and bless your eternal journey. Joyce Rhodes Law
