Luttie Mae Palmer was born in Culpeper, Virginia. She was the cherished daughter of Fred and Daisy Mae Jackson and one of five siblings.
Luttie received her formal education in Washington, D.C. Her career at the Pentagon led her to meet John L. Palmer, the love of her life. They married on November 5, 1942, and together they created a loving family with two sons and one daughter.
Luttie dedicated her life to the Lord and joined Bread of Life Church under the inspiring leadership of Pastor Ronald Young. Her warm and loving spirit touched the hearts of everyone she met, making her a beloved member of the community. Known for her kindness, generosity, and thoughtfulness, Luttie was the fifth member to join Bread of Life, where she proudly became the church's first Deaconess. She continued to serve the Lord even after the church’s name changed to From the Heart Church Ministries of Harrisburg.
Luttie remained an active member of From the Heart Church Ministries of Harrisburg for many years. She faithfully attended services until her health began to decline. Her legacy of love and service continues to inspire all who knew her.
Luttie transitioned into eternal life on Sunday, December 29, 2024. She was preceded in death by her husband, John L. Palmer; parents, Fred and Daisy Mae Jackson; her brothers, James Jackson and George Jackson; her sisters, Virginia Jackson, Martin Pearlena Jackson Carter; sisters-in-law, Ruby Godfrey and Mary Jackson and her granddaughter, Lorrie Ann Palmer.
She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Muse; her two sons, John Palmer (Chucky) and Leonard Palmer (Dorothy); stepdaughter Angela Jackson (Bradley) and her grandchildren: Lynise Chandler (Michael), Samuel M. Muse Jr., Jamal Palmer, Lynette Palmer and Leslie Rier. Luttie also leaves behind great-grandchildren, Micah Chandler and Lauren Chandler, along with a host of nieces, great-nieces, nephews, Alfred Godfrey (Carolyn) and The Honorable Gregory Jackson and many beloved relatives and friends.
As the church mother, “Mom Luttie” will be remembered for the nuggets of wisdom she shared during conversations with her church family and friends. Luttie was the matriarch of the Palmer/Jackson family, and she will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Her legacy of unconditional love and her gentle spirit will remain in our hearts forever.
Her life will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 9, 2025 in the Sanctuary of From the Heart Church Ministries, 1300 Wayne Street, Harrisburg with viewing and visitation from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.
To the family of Ms. Luttie, I am so very sorry to hear of her passing. Your mother held a special place in my heart. I loved hearing her stories of how she and your dad met and how my dad sold them their home on Regina St. I would often ask her to please make me some cabbage and pork chops, because her cooking was sooooo good! I'm trying to remember her dog's name. She fussed at the puppy but she surely loved him. It has been a long time since I had seen her, but she was thought of often. I loved walking up to the back door knowing she would be in the kitchen ready to share a laugh with me. Please know that you all are in my thoughts and prayers.

There are not enough words to describe the wonderful person Mom Luttie was. Her wisdom, love and laughter will never be forgotten. I know she was greeted by our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, with a resounding "well done thy good and faithful servant"! May Jesus Christ wrap each of you in His loving arms and comfort the entire family as you shed tears of sorrow for Mom Luttie. As you celebrate her Homegoing, may sweet and precious memories of a life well lived be a reason for your tears of joy. Mama Luttie....The Lord Jesus used her & her faithfulness to get Angie to visit From The Heart Church Ministries Church. Angie got my children: Crystal, Brianne, & Jerome to visit the church, then they got me to visit the church. If it wasn't for Mrs. Luttie, we would not be members. When my mom started coming to church, Mrs. Luttie always made her feel loved & important. My mom would always look for her when she came.55 Thank you Jesus for Mrs. Luttie...a beautiful person!

To The family, I offer my sympathy. To know Miss Luttie was to love her. Such a kind and loving soul and a laugh that was quite contagious. As a teenage mom, she offered along with Dum Dum, her beloved poodle to keep my now 47 year daughter so I could graduate. A Regina Street Queen she will always be remembered.
My sincere condolences to the family of Ms. Luttie Palmer. I had the pleasure of being a neighbor of Ms. Luttie, on Regina St for many years. I had the wonderful opportunity to not only sit and talk with her over the years, but to partake of her delicious, delightful potato salad as well as many other made-with-love food items that she was known for. Ms. Luttie was a sweet, kind and wise woman of God who unselfishly offered her love and talents to many, her presence will be missed. Rest well Ms. Luttie, gone but never forgotten.
