Richard E. Lester, Sr., 72, of Harrisburg, transitioned into eternal life on Monday, September 14, 2020 in the peace and love of his home.
He was born in Harrisburg, son of the late Samuel and Vivian (Gumby) Lester, a graduate of the former John Harris High School, Penn State University and the PA State Police Academy.
Richard was retired with an honorable discharge from the PA State Police Troop H and a member of American Legion Ephraim Slaughter Post 733. He leaves to celebrate his life, his wife, Marjorie J. Lester; his son, Richard Lester, Jr.; his brothers, Solomon Murray, Steven Murray, Dr. John Wesley Gumby, Sr., Ronald E. Gumby, Sr. and Samuel Lester, Jr.; his sisters, Patricia Copeland and Angela Murray; his granddaughter, Deanna Lester and a host of other relatives and friends. Richard's life will be celebrated on Monday, September 21 at 12 Noon in the Sanctuary of the Greater Zion Missionary Baptist Church at 212 N. Progress Ave. with viewing 10:00 a.m.until Noon and burial in Paxtang Cemetery. Covid 19 guidelines will be observed with masks and six foot social distancing for all attendees. Arrangements entrusted to the Ministry of Comfort of Major H. Winfield Funeral Home, Steelton Live streaming of the service will be available on the Major H. Winfield Funeral Home
I've known Richard for over 50 years and some of my fondest memories of our time together probably aren't appropriate to share here. I will say Gumby was one of the finest men I've ever known. It is an honor to be his friend and I will miss him. God Bless you old friend. Rest In Peace.
