Obituary For Ernst Muller

Ernst Albert Muller, age 89 of New Bern, NC and formally Smithtown, NY went to be with the Lord January 22, 2024. He was born in Hagenbach, Germany on May 1, 1934, son of Ernst Albert Muller and Hedwig Muller (Vogel). Ernst immigrated to America in 1954, sending for his wife-to-be, Aloise, who followed and married Ernst three years later, the love of his life.

A Catholic Mass and Burial will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, February 10, 2024 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church 3005 Country Club Rd. New Bern. The interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.

He is survived by his daughter Diana Wade and husband Dana, seven grandchildren, Jenny Cox and husband Liam, David Gunderson, Justin Wade and husband Anthony, Amanda Nelson and husband John, Cory Wade and wife Anna, Timothy Popko and wife Lauren, and Jonathan Popko. Ten great-grandchildren, Emeline, Logan and Penny Cox, Aloise, Augustin and Magdalen Wade, Carson and Parker Wade, Noah Nelson, and Hudson Popko, and his sister Ludwine Knies, as well as many nieces & nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Aloise Muller, daughters Christa Muller Gunderson and Helga Muller Napolitano.

Ernst loved to be with family and friends and enjoyed many years hosting and visiting with the people he and Aloise loved so much. Ernst was a true artisan in carpentry and cabinet-building, and they had a beautiful home that Ernst build himself. They generously shared many meals, holiday celebrations, and gatherings with friends in their home together, and it was always a special time for the grandkids to go to “Oma and Opa’s” house, a house filled with good food, music, and lots of love. Ernst and Aloise’s connection to their extended family in Germany was strong, and they visited Hagenbach frequently over the years, and also passed down those connections to the next generations.
