Henry Dancy Jr.,72, was called to rest February 4, 2026 in Pinetops, North Carolina.
Henry was formerly employed at Oscar's Mortuary as a Licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer for over 20 years and as a Registered Nurse at CarolinaEast Medical Center, Pediatric Department, and retired from Edgecombe County Health Department.
Viewing hours are 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Wednesday, February 18, 2026 thru Friday, February 20, 2026 at Oscar’s Mortuary 1700 Oscar Drive New Bern, NC
His Service is 11:00 AM, Tuesday, February 24, 2026 at Pleasant Hill AMEZ Church 105 Lake Road, Rockingham, North Carolina 28379. The interment will follow at Pleasant Hill AMEZ Church Cemetery.
He is survived by his sister, Debra Camp, Cibolo, TX; one nephew, James Douglas Camp II; two nieces, Tonia G. Houston and Tyneshia D. Camp all of Cibolo, TX; two great-grand nephews and two great-grand nieces and one great-great grand nephew; many Dancy cousins including, Curmilus Butch Dancy II, Diane Hussey “Shurg”, Charles Lewis, Reddrick cousins; neighbor, Faye Bynum; former co-workers and friends of Craven and Edgecombe Counties.

Henry was never too busy to stop and share a conversation with a friend. He and I always would stop and spend a few minutes chatting no matter where we meet. May God Bless each of you in your time of loss.
I worked with Henry on Pediatrics. He was a dear friend. The world has lost a good man. Rest in Peace Henry, you are loved and missed my friend.

I worked with Henry on Pediatrics at the hospital in New Bern for a lot of years. He was a fun loving person, but was equally as compassionate and conscientious about the care he gave our patients. He was an unforgettable friend, lived by many, including me. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends during this time when there is such a gapping hole in your your lives.

Henry was absolutely one of the best guys I have ever known. We graduated together at Rockingham High. My day was always made when I would see Henry coming down the hall. Henry will truly be missed. The care he provided to our daughter, provided us the comfort we needed during her illness. Even though it was years ago, his caring heart provided us with a lifetime of remembrance to the service he provided. God is looking at Henry and saying " Job Well Done". As I Stumble across this , I'm at a lost for words.Henry lived across street from us in the early 80's my mom and his mom Mrs Julia became instant friends and I was introduced to her through my mother, which in turns Henry mother introduce me to him. We connect with a strong friendship bond with Henry and I . Of course his mom thought that we would be a couple. But we would talk watch movies together and go out. Henry was a joy to be around very friendly and enjoyed his work. Henry you will never be forgotten you were a great friend. Even after you moved to Pinetops you were that friend and times you invited me to come visit. Whenever I saw you you were still the same person. Never changing always happy and Smiling. Often times it's hard to meet people with a good personality and good heart. You were a very caring person. I will remember you and our friendship you would always check on me or ask family members when you didn't see me. Now that's a friend ......So Henry take your Rest you done the Best.. Henry Dancy Jr. Pinetops NC formerly of New Bern NC and grew up in Rockingham NC transitioned on Wednesday February 4, 2026 at his home.
Henry retired from Craven County Hospital now Carolina East Medical Center where he was a Pediatrician.
Henry was well known in New Bern as he worked
My wife is from New Bern and my daughter was born at the hospital on the floor that he worked.
My wife's aunt worked with him.
Henry lived less than a Mike from my dad's house.
My dad and I used to plant crops on his farm.
When he got sick around 2 years ago he called me at work to go get him some clothes to wear to rehab because he was in Tarboro but was going to send him to Greenville.
I just talked to him in Piggly Wiggly the week before he transitioned.
Henry gave me my COVID shot.
Henry retired from Edgecombe County Department of Health and Human Services after his health began to fail him but it was hard for him to go home because he loved working with families.
Henry was known for his nice vehicle as well.

I remember when Dancy "as I called Henry" first moved to the Pembroke community, living next door trying to teach me how to play chess and I kept calling the pieces the "horse" or the "man", needless to say I never caught on to the game 😂.
