Hilda Grace Brantley Hoffer passed away on Wednesday, March 2, 2022 at the age of 67, at Carolina East Medical Center. You give but little when you give your possessions. It’s when you give of yourself that you truly give. -(Kahlil Gibran) If you had the privilege of knowing Hilda, then you already know that she was a giver of the rarest kind. Hilda was born on June 14th 1954 to parents Doris and Bobby Brantley, who preceded her in death. She is survived by her best friend and husband James (Jim) Hoffer and their children and grandchildren. The two had 43 lovely years together and were married in 1982. They had two beautiful daughters – Andrea Curtis (husband Kevin Curtis) of Oro Valley, AZ, and Courtney Hoffer of New Bern, NC. To her daughters, she was a wonderful mother raising them with unwavering love and so many laughs. She excitedly took on the role of the fun-loving, doting G-ma to her three grandchildren: Aubrey, Olivia, and Caleb. She was the oldest of five children, and survived by Louise Barnes and Yvonne Fountain (Husband Mike Fountain) of Rocky Mount, NC; Franklin (Frankie) Brantley (Wife Terri Brantley) of Advance, NC. She was preceded in death by her youngest brother Jerome Brantley (Wife Renee Brantley), of Castalia, NC. She has many Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Nieces, and Nephews that she loved very dearly. She was a shy, quiet child who loved to climb her favorite tree and read her books. She never lost her love for reading. She also loved doing crossword puzzles and cryptograms. She loved the beach, and the mountains, but her favorite thing of all was to show her love through quality time spent with family and friends. To her many friends, she was the one they could always depend on. She always gave it all to those she loved – it came as naturally and warmly as a breeze in Summer. She illuminated the room with her presence; and her joyous laugh, kind heart, and graceful guidance will be sorely missed by all. She was a doting daughter, devoted wife and mother and G-ma, beloved big sister, and cherished friend. Hilda was a shining example of what it means to be a good person. She was a proud member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters. She had a tremendous love for the work she did to at the Church and with her fellow Catholic Daughters. Her Funeral Mass will be held Monday, March 28th at 1:00 pm at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in New Bern, NC, with a Memorial Reception immediately following in the Family Life Center on premises. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Rheumatology Research Foundation are requested to honor her long-time battle with Rheumatoid Arthritis. Donations may be made online at https://www.rheumresearch.org/ to the memorial of Hilda Hoffer. All are welcome to attend.
I miss you mom. Not a day goes by that I don't want to reach out and call you. You're so very missed and still fiercely loved. Courtney and I are looking out for dad. Rest in peace mama.
I love my grandma and she was the world to me
I loved my GMA more than anything but she's still here to me to everyone
I loved my GMA more than anything but she's still here to me to everyone
Just over one year since your passing, and it still feels like I can call and you'll answer. I miss you so very much Mom. I see the signs you're still around. We're so lucky to have had you in our lives and the world isn't as bright without you in it.
I will always remember Hilda who stepped up to undertake the advertising of a concert I was giving on behalf of the Catholic Daughters. Hilda was amazing in setting up the hospitality table with refreshments and especially in the advertising of the concert in all newspapers. Hilda found a picture of me in a prior concert and took out 1/2 page advertisement of the upcoming concert with the picture. She went above and beyond what was expected and her joy in doing this very much went into the success of the concert. Hilda, you will be missed. Thanks for being there for me and the Catholic Daughters. Rest in peace. Sincerely, Kathy Smith

May the blessings of God be upon your family and His Peace be with yours. All my love, Cher
