John Melvin Mercer, 80 passed at CarolinaEast Medical Center, Thursday, February 1, 2024.
His service is 1:00 PM, Friday, February 9, 2024 at St. John M. B. Church 1130 Walt Bellamy Drive, New Bern with Military Honors.
John is survived by his wife, Shelia H. Mercer, of the home; three daughters, Michelle Mercer Hall, Kearney, NJ., Melanie Mercer, Garner, NC and Noka Hills, GA.; one son, Rodman Coley Williams, of New Bern; three brothers, Raymond Mercer, Esau Mercer and Benjamin Mercer; two sisters, Mamie Martin and Ann Scott all of Savannah, GA; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Worked with John for years at Cherry point. Always had a wonderful disposition. He loved life and always wore a smile on his face. Glad I had a chance to meet John and I know he is in heaven now just smiling and talking to someone. May God comfort his family in this trying time.
