Louis Joseph Simon, Jr., 69 of New Bern was called to rest on January 15, 2026, at Duke University Hospital, after battling a courageous battle with pulmonary fibrosis.
Louis was born March 31, 1956 to the late Louis, Sr. and Jennie (Kaleel) Simon, at old Saint Luke’s Hospital in New Bern, NC. Louis graduated from New Bern Sr. High School in 1975, and took electrical classes at Craven Community College. Louis began his career at Big Star Grocery Store for 16 years, working his way up to Grocery Manager, until the store closed. Louis then went to work for Woodruff Distributing as a pre-salesman, with him earning Salesman of the Year. Louis last worked at Pepsi Cola for 21 years as a pre-salesman.
After retirement, Louis’ greatest job was as Papa, helping raise his grandchildren Addison and Bradley since babies. They were the apple of his eye.
Louis married Donna Crow on October 22, 1989 at Saint Paul Catholic Church in New Bern, NC. They were married for 36 years and had two children, Jennifer and Jonathan.
Louis was active at his church, Saint Paul Catholic Church as a Eucharistic Minister, Cemetery Volunteer; as well as, a volunteer at the school. Louis was also a third degree Knight of Columbus, Council #3303.
Louis is survived by his wife Donna Crow Simon of the home, son Jonathan Simon of New Bern, NC, daughter Jennifer Simon of Chocowinity, NC, grandchildren Addison and Bradley Weldon of the home, sisters Adele Pollard of Holly Springs, NC, Jeanne Williams (Jonathan) of Clayton, NC, Mary Rumer (Chuck) of Trentwoods, NC, Cecilia Wilson (Doug) of Arapahoe, NC, and a host of nieces and nephews. Louis was preceded in death by his sister Peggy Wissinger (Marlyn), and his brother-in-law Mike Pollard.
Louis never met a stranger and was well liked by everyone! Once you knew Louis, you had a friend for life. Louis was a hard worker and always provided for his family. Louis will be greatly missed, but comforting to know he is able to fish once again, which was his favorite pastime.
Visitation of friends and viewing is 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 20, 2026 at Saint Paul Catholic Church Atrium.
His Mass of Christian Burial is 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 20, 2026 at Saint Paul Catholic Church 3005 Country Club Road. The Interment will follow at Saint Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

To the family of Louis, so sorry to hear of his passing. I went to high school and actually had a few classes with him - even though he was in an upper class. I also remember him working at the grocery store back in the day. Take comfort in know that he is no longer in pain and is whole again. May God send His peace and comfort for the days, weeks, months & years ahead. Hold onto God and to each other as you walk this path together. Will keep family lifted in prayer.

Louis warmly welcomed my late husband and I to the Saint Paul parish and school. He made us feel by like family. We both really loved Louis. He will be greatly missed. Louis will live in our hearts forever.
