Cousin Mae Belle "my beloved cousin and friend." I knew this day would come. God was sooo good to us. You transitioned the day before your 106th birthday. Gone but not forgotten. Another angel has been plucked. Many of my friends asked me in February....how old is your cousin this year. I bragged about you and Mama Leah Mills Franks Graham often. Mama Leah died 3 months shy of her 109th birthday in 2019. Two former school teachers from Jones County. One co-worker called both of you "Pioneer Women." He said...they don't make them any longer. To God be the Glory. When you turned 100 yrs old - I researched our family history in Ancestry.com. To my surprise, I didn't know you had so many siblings (lol). You are the youngest but many of your siblings lived to reach 100, according to their death certificates. Your paternal great grandmother Flora Simmons (former slave) is listed in the 1880 Federal Census, age 102. Flora was my GGG Grandmother. At least three of my maternal aunts (your first cousins) celebrated 100:yrs. Longevity runs in our family. You were full of life and I enjoyed our many phone conversations. My friends couldn't believe we talked on the phone after you turned 100. I told them...Cousin Mae Belle's mind is sharp. I have so many great memories. You enjoyed talking to my husband Franklin. You asked about him sooo much - I told you - I needed to watch you (lol). Your legacy will live on. You touched many lives. Your work in Jones County is completed. Job well done. You kept the Faith and you lived a God fearing life. You were a faithful servant at Free Will Chapel FWB Church in P'ville. I loved you dearly. Your Cousins Franklin and Shrone Franks Wooten, Stafford, VA.

The person I looked up to. She was the kind of teacher that didn't take no for an answer if you had energy to be to school you had energy to learn. I use her expression often in my daily routine-"Learn to listen and listen to learn". That was what she instilled and years later it still works. Thanks Mrs. Vaughn for all you taught me and the children of Jones County. Rest in peace-your services to me will never be forgotten. Diane Kinsey
A queen gone but never will be forgotten. You always be my elementary school teacher, Sunday school, and Vacation Bible school director. Rest in peace Ms. Vaughn. Stephanie Maben Fuller
I never attended her third-grade class, but it didn't matter because everyone was her student. Written statement earlier. Delphine Bryant, Glenn Dale, MD
Miss Vaughn was my hero. I never attended her third-grade class, but it didn't matter because everyone was her student and she saw the need to make sure you were on the right path of learning. She was more than a teacher; she was like family. She used to remind me of how much I liked to dance even in elementary school. She has lived a fruitful life but will truly be missed.
Rest well my formal school teacher. You have lived a beautiful life.
What a Blessing it is. Sleep In Peace, Queen. Charlene Washington

Sending our sincere condolences and prayers to the family of Ms. Vaughn. A strong pillar in the community that will be missed tremendously. Ms. Vaughn was my 3rd grade teacher and she was determined that her students would learn something before we left her classroom. May God grant the family strength and comfort today and the days ahead. From: Wanda Hill Toodle
