Obituary For Mary Durand
Mary Josephine Pierce Durand, 80, of New Bern died June 2, 2025 in Budapest Hungary.
Her Funeral Mass will be held 11:00 AM, Monday, July 7, at St. Paul Catholic Church 3005 Country Club Rd. Burial will follow at St Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
She is survived by her children and stepchildren, Vernon Rockett, III of Albuquerque, NM, Corie Rockett of Virginia Beach, VA, Richard Durand, Jr. of Falls Church, VA, Christopher Durand of Chesapeake, VA; and Karen Thompson of Wilmington, NC; one brother, Robert Pierce of Richmond, VA; eight grandchildren and three great granchildren.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Mary's family and friends. Specifically, Corie, Vernon and his children, Richard and Christopher Durand and their family, and Karen Thompson her family. A heartfelt thank you to Mary's friend Steve and condolences to her friends at St. Paul Catholic Church. May we all take comfort knowing that Mary is in the loving arms or our Lord and Savior Jesus (Matthew 11:28). Corie and Vernon, please accept our sincere condolences on the loss of your mom. Mary Jo became my sister-in-law in 1986 when she married my brother, Mike. We were friends before we were relatives. She embraced our family as if it were her own. She helped celebrate our happy occasions and mourned our losses. She supported my brother through his final illness, but never stopped caring for our family. Mary Jo seemed happiest visiting with and talking about her children and grandchildren. We were lucky to have Mary Jo in our lives. She will be missed by many.
