Sean Fahy, 48, of Fort Myers, FL, passed away suddenly on April 14, 2026, leaving behind a family who loved him deeply and a circle of friends who will forever feel the space he filled. Sean was born on July 25, 1977, in Asheville, NC and grew up in New Bern, NC with a spirit that blended kindness, curiosity, and a perfectly timed dry wit that could catch you off guard in the best possible way.
He had a soft spot for children and animals, a sharp mind for strategy and puzzles, and a career that allowed him to travel and see more of the world than he ever expected. Wherever he went, he carried his humor, his compassion, and his ability to make people feel at ease. And although he was gentle at heart, if there was a pot nearby, Sean could always be counted on to give it a little stir, just enough to make people laugh and keep things interesting.
Sean loved movies - not just watching them, but quoting them with that subtle, knowing delivery that made people laugh even before they realized the joke had landed. He often saw life through the lens of the films he loved. He understood the truth in Ferris Bueller’s reminder that “life moves pretty fast,” and he lived in a way that made room for joy, connection, and a thirst for knowledge. He shared the heart of Almost Famous, that sense that “it’s all happening,” even in the small, ordinary moments. And he appreciated the absurdity of life with the same grin as Monty Python and the Holy Grail, where sometimes the only thing to do is laugh and keep going.
Sean is survived by his parents, Michael and Laura Fahy of New Bern; two brothers, Brian Fahy of Cove City and Gregory Fahy of New Bern; two sisters, Heather Fahy (Ian Miller) of Asheville and Jennifer (Jared) Hines of New Bern; maternal grandmother, Dorothy Carter of Asheville; Aunts Maureen Fahy, Diane Fahy, and Debbie Carter; and his cousins Adam (Maureen) Carter and Lea (Ted) Blackwood of Asheville, Michael (Deena) Fahy of Cary, and Teri (David) Edwards of Beaufort, as well as his loving, who shared in the family bond and memories that shaped his life. He is also survived by his girlfriend and love of his life, Lauren Ward of Fort Meyers, FL., who cared deeply for him and shared in the joy, humor, and quiet moments that made up his life.
He was adored by his nieces and nephews, Jared M. Hines, Jillian Hines, Caitlin Fahy, Isabela Fahy, Lily Fahy, Alexi Fahy, Nathan Miller, as well as great-nephews and niece, Jared Matthew, Michael and Amelia; each of whom carries a piece of his humor, his kindness, and his gentle way of making people feel special.
Sean extended his care far beyond his immediate family. Many of his friends’ children knew him simply as “Uncle Sean,” a title he wore with pride and warmth. His ability to show up for others - quietly, consistently, and with a perfectly timed line of dry sarcasm - is a legacy that will be remembered with love.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, William E. and Katherine Fahy of Morehead City, and Larry Carter of Asheville; his Uncle Bill of Morehead City and Uncle Kim of Columbia, SC; and his cousin Matthew Hernandez of Newport.
The family will receive friends Friday, May 1, 2026 at Oscar's Memorial Chapel from 7:00 PM-8:00 PM.
A graveside service will be held on May 2, 2026 at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery at Saint Paul Catholic Church, 3005 Country Club Rd. New Bern, NC. A celebration of his life will follow at The Flying Fox, 411 Broad Street.
Blessed are they who mourn, for they will be comforted. ~Matthew 5:4
My friend you will be greatly missed. We may have been childhood friends but I considered you to be a brother. My heart is sadden by you being gone. Thank you for the time I had with you.
My condolences to the Fahy family and friends.
Sean and I worked together at Petsense, frequently working on new stores together. I believe this obituary captured him perfectly, he was smart, determined, calm, helpful, and hilarious at just the right moment.
For hundreds of associates, who started with jobs at Petsense during a new store set up, many times Sean would be one of the first people they meet and make their decisions on how they liked the company and the people. I can't think of a better representation of a good leader in person than Sean to be that first interaction. He made many nervous associates feel calm on their first day in a new job, and his impact touches far more people than we will ever know.
My sincere condolences to his family, his girlfriend, and all of his friends
Sean was a great guy. I hired him at PetSense and watched him become an amazing Manager. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
I won't forget all of the fun years in college working with Sean at Hollywood Video. Such a great guy, and he'll be missed dearly.
