Roxana Robbins Hicks or “Rock”, daughter of Marie Robbins and Walter Robbins, Sr. was born on May 4, 1935, in High Point North Carolina. The youngest of five children, she lived a long and fulfilling life, enriched by family and friends. Her cheerful personality, sense of humor, and smile lit up any room, and even at the age of ninety, she remained young at heart. Throughout her life, she was a loving daughter, devoted wife, adoring mother, doting grandmother, and loyal friend to many. Her faith, her church, and her loved ones meant everything to her, and she will always be remembered for her warmth, her wisdom, and her lively spirit.
Upon completing high school at William Penn in 1954, she attended North Carolina A&T State University where she majored in education and graduated in 1958. Roxana then became an elementary school teacher in Danville Virginia for twelve years. On December 30, 1967, she married her soulmate, Henry Hicks, for whom she was happily married for 55 years, and together they were blessed with the love of their life, their daughter, Maria Lynn Hicks.
After Maria was born, she became a substitute teacher and mentor to thousands of Guilford County school students who admired her dearly. In addition, Roxana served in the ticket office for Ben L. Smith High School, NC A&T State University, and as a Show Pro Security Guard for the Greensboro Coliseum Complex.
Roxana was also a member of Shiloh Baptist Church for over 45 years. During her years at the church she served as a devoted Sunday School Teacher, Boy Scout and Girl Scout Troop Leader, member of the JT Hairston Apartment Board and the Senior Choir.
Roxana loved to cook a few specialty items, and she made the best homemade soup and chicken dumplings this side of the Mississippi. She enjoyed family dinners, singing her favorite hymns, discussing politics, traveling with her daughter, and watching judge shows and 90-Day-Fiancé on television. But mostly, Roxana and Henry loved doting on their granddaughter, Madison Nicole, whom they adored.
In addition to her parents, two young siblings, and her husband, Roxana was preceded in death by her older brothers Nathaniel and Walter Jr. whom she idolized. Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Maria (Lowell III), her grandchildren, Madison, Lowell IV and Karman, her sisters-in-law, Reba and Alma, her nieces, Monica, Marilyn, and Roxana Marie, as well as a host of extended family and dear friends.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, May 24, 2025 1:00pm at Shiloh Baptist Church 1210 South Eugene Street Greensboro North Carolina. Visitation 12:00 pm.
Burial will follow at Lakeview Memorial Park 3600 North O'Henry Boulevard Greensboro North Carolina.
A Mother's love is always with her children. Losing a Mother is one of the deepest sorrows a heart can know. But her goodness, her caring, and her wisdom live on-like a legacy of love that will always be with you. Your Mother and I had a wonderful journey of friendship. Our connections at Shiloh Baptist Church, Vacation Bible School, and teaching students for Guilford County Schools brought much joy, laughter, and lifelong memories for me. May her "love" surround you now. With Heartfelt Sympathy, Brenda Williams

Maria and family, what fond memories we have of Roxana. She was always joyful and uplifting in spirit. The many church trips we made together when the children were young will always be remembered with a smile. Our last conversations were even filled with laughter. We thank God for Roxana's life and her dedication to children and education. Dannie, Georgia Marshall and Family

Maria, I loved your mom. She always gave me words of encouragement with Jamale. I know that Jamale was a handful at Shiloh Camp, but she knew how to handle Jamale. I will miss her bopping with you on Facebook. She loved her granddaughter oh so much. Remember, Maria, Mama Hicks is no longer in pain, she is in heaven with Papa Hicks and he has a beautiful house in heaven waiting for his bride. Jesus will escort her home to his heavenly kingdom.
Maria, our prayers are with you and the family at this challenging time. My daughter (Daina) has always talked about your Mom setting her on the right course academically. Your Mom touched the soul and uplifted so many students during her career in education. Please be strong and as my grandmother would often say "God Will Fix It". Our prayers are with the family today and always.
I had the honor of meeting Mrs. Hicks during a business trip. She was kind, funny, and determined. Your mother's kindness and spirit will always be remembered by all who came in contact with her. She raised an incredible person, and her love lives on through you.
Sending you all my love and strength during this difficult time.
