Obituary For Artis Hamlin Broadnax
Artis Broadnax, 95, of Eden, NC died Saturday, September 5, 2020. Public viewing will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, September 11, 2020 at Perry Spencer Funeral Home, Eden, NC. The family will have a Private Service.
Artis,“Muddie” was born April 9, 1925 to the late John Henry and Maggie Greenleaf Hamlin. She went home to our Lord on September 5, 2020. She began her journey at Piney Fork Baptist Church (where her father was the original member), Sunny Home Baptist Church and 50+ years at St. Paul Baptist (now New St. Paul). Her father stressed God and education. Artis attended LeMae Beauty College where she learned & professionally practices for 70+ years. She was married to a military man (US Navy) where she took care of 4 children, dedicated to the church, family and her business. She loved to travel and visiting to the military bases. Caring, giving and loving all, for she would give to any and all. She touched the hearts and minds of those she came in contact with and loved. She will be missed by all who knew her. Artis is also preceded in death by husband of 53 years, Robert Broadnax, Sr., daughter, Vondia Harris and grandson, Reginald Broadnax, Jr. To cherish her memory: sons; Robert Broadnax, Jr. (Angela) of Tacoma, WA, Reginald Broadnax (Veronica) of Clemmons, NC, daughter; Shirlene Reynolds (Mark) of Vancover, BC, grandchildren; Fikisha, Keith, Jalen, Patrick, Jaz’, Brad, Vic, Greg, Michelle, Matt great grandschildren; Robert, Mikah, Della, Sam, Navia, Jakayla, Jacob, Ayden, Adelina, great great grands; Jada, Jabari, Kingston. A host of nieces, nephews, loving friends and other relatives.

Artis, muddy, Mango, grandma, she was wonderful. The FIRST African American hair stylist in Eden, North Carolina. Not only a mother, and grandmother but a sister, a mentor, a care taker and a wonderful cook. I remember staying up late nights and eating raspberry sherbert with ginger ale. I remember her teaching me to make dumplings, and sous meat (albeit I don't believe mines will ever be as good).
The stories she taught me of her childhood and times she had seen before with party lines and not being able to wear pants also taught me a greater appreciation for my privacy and freedom.
Mango will never be forgotten in our hearts and minds. A truly Godly mother. We love you <3
