Obituary For James Isaiah Scales

James Isaiah Scales, 76, of Eden, NC passed Tuesday, January 10, 2023. A public viewing will be held from 12:30 p.m. -1:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 17, 2023 at Perry-Spencer Funeral Home Chapel, Eden, NC.

Mr. James I. Scales, son of the late Jessie J. Scales and Ruby M. Scales, was born in Rockingham County on July 4, 1946. He departed this life on Tuesday, January 10, 2023 after a short illness.

He was lovingly known as “Scales”, by many and will be remembered for his “trash talking” and his kind heart. He never met a stranger. He was a loving father and son who took care of his sick mother for some time before her passing.

He was a graduate of Douglas High School located in Eden, NC. Soon after graduation he joined the military and served in the United States Marine Corps for several years. After the military, he worked for Modern Day Garbage Company for 15 years but later retired from Greensboro City’s Parks and Recreation .

He leaves to cherish his memory: Daughters; Sonya Colvin of SC, Nicole Scales of NC, Norlisha Borntrager of Ca, and Natalie Scales of Oregon. One son; Jessie Scales of CA. Sister; Geraldine Hamilton of VA, brother; Jimmie G Scales and friend Ms. Mary Richardson of NC. 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren along with a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and good friends who truly loved him.

The last time I talked to James was around 2012, I believe. James was a military veteran, so saw in in passing. But, he was always kind...a few choice words, but nice, real -- told it like it was. You know they say you don't know what you have until it's gone... :( Man we sure do miss you. We're gonna miss those crazy talks we used to have. I'll even miss those days where we beat on a lawnmower for hours and still couldn't get the blades off. But it gave us plenty of time to talk about all manner of things. My dad passed away in 2019 from cancer and I know now you were trying to spare us the pain of remembering. But I sure wish you would a let us come and visit you. But I understand how stubborn you can be... :P well we love you old man, we surely gonna miss you. We already miss you tremendously, your pain is over, ours is just beginning...
