Sharif Lamont Harrington, 50, was born in High Point, North Carolina, on February 19, 1975. His earthly journey came to a close on May 9, 2025, at his residence. Sharif was preceded in death by son, Rychon Hawkins, paternal grandparents, Archie and Katherine McBride, Phyllis McBride (aunt), Benjamin and Demetrius McBride (uncles) maternal grandparents, Henry and Hannah Harrington, Sandra and Sheila Harrington (aunts), Alton and Ulysses Harrington (uncles), and Betty McNeely (mother- in-law).
From an early age, Sharif displayed natural athleticism, excelling in basketball, football, and baseball. His love for competition extended beyond the field, as he immersed himself in gaming long before it became mainstream. He proudly mastered Mike Tyson’s Knockout, conquered Bowser in Super Mario Bros., and never missed a day of playing with his Rock’em Sock’em Robots. A lover of nostalgia, Sharif cherished He-Man and Transformers action figures and cartoons.
Sharif found joy in family gatherings, often spending time at his grandmother’s house, playing with his cousins, especially Fatima, with whom he shared countless mischievous adventures. He deeply admired his Uncle D, looking up to him in his youth. Sharif graduated from T. Wingate Andrews High School, Class of 1993, where he was a valued member of the Track Team, specializing in Pole Vault. Known for his distinctive sense of style, he often adorned himself with flashy jewelry, exuding confidence and individuality. Music was an integral part of Sharif’s life, with Tupac standing as his favorite artist. He deeply appreciated the artistry of Scarface and found special meaning in Heart of a Woman by Summer Walker. A passionate supporter of Tampa Bay Buccaneers football and both Wake Forest Deacons and UNC Tar Heels basketball, Sharif never missed an opportunity to cheer on his favorite teams.
Sharif proudly dedicated five and a half years to serving in the Army National Guard as a Combat Wireman, achieving the rank of Specialist 4 (Spc 4). His commitment to service was a testament to his strength and dedication.
In the 1990s, Sharif met the love of his life Kim. Their friendship blossomed into a relationship in 2004, leading to their wedding on August 26, 2011. Together, they created a life filled with love and adventure, enjoying drives across the country, trips to the beach, and quiet evenings watching movies. They especially loved watching Family Business on BET. Sharif and his wife shared a generous spirit, always finding joy in helping others. They delighted in spoiling children, showering them with affection before sending them back home to their mothers with laughter and love.
Sharif leaves to cherish his loving memory his wife, Kimberly Hawkins Harrington, his son, Rashad Harrington; parents, Earlene Harrington and Donaven McBride; sister, Lakira Harrington-Crosby (Robert); grandchildren, Rychon Jr, Juelz, Jaliyah, Skylan and Royce; special daughter, Ashley Newson; goddaughter, Da'Naya Brown; paternal uncle, Archie McBride Jr.; maternal aunts/uncles, Kathleen Lindsay, Henry Lee (Jeanette), Annetta and Dwayne Harrington (Michelle); great aunt, Lestine Crawford; and a host of cousins, in-laws and special childhood friends all of High Point.
Sharif will be remembered for his passion, his dedication to family, and the warmth he brought to those around him. His legacy lives on in the hearts of everyone, fortunate enough to know him.
