Obituary For Angela Underwood

Underwood, Angela, A resident of Montgomery, AL, transitioned to be with the Lord on Friday, March 8, 2024. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2024 at 11:00 am at Bethel Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Calvin McTier, Ph.D officiating. Ms. Underwood will lie in state on Friday, March 15, 2024 from 1-8PM at Phillips-Riley Funeral Home and on Saturday, March 16, 2024 at 10:00am. Angela was a loving sister, aunt, cousin, and a friend to many, many, many people. She showed love and generosity to everyone.

She was preceded in death by her father James Hopson, her mother Clara Hopson, and grandfather, Mose Stevenson. She leaves to cherish many, many, many memories. Sisters: Clarissa H. Broughton, Montgomery, AL; Rita Gilchrist, Fayetteville, GA, and Brenda Hopson, Francis,Texas; Brothers: Darryl Hopson, Montgomery, AL and Travis Hopson, Saint Marcus, Texas. Nephews and Nieces: Christopher (Tammie) Hopson,Montgomery, AL; Jermaine Broughton, Montgomery, AL; Lakitta (Lefel) Daniels, McDonald, GA; Jennifer Broughton, Montgomery, AL; Jessica Gilchrist, Fayetteville, GA, Jerrell (Temikia) Broughton,Montgomery, AL; Dominique Broughton,Montgomery, AL and Charles (Amanda) Gilchrist III, Graniteville, South Carolina. Great Nephews and Nieces: Antonio McBride, Morgan Gilchrist, Ameria Powell, JaMiya Broughton, JaCoby Broughton, Jeterrius Broughton, Jaliyah Hawthorne, Emarie Gilchrist, Jayden Brougthton, Xiya Broughton, and JaBari Broughton. Devoted Sisters in Christ: Glinda Perkins, Thelma Jones, Virginia Turner, Janice Fountain, Carolyn Brown, Maureen Powell, Yolanda Byrdsong, and Ruth Crenshaw. Goddaughter: Adriane Perkins. Special Friend: Augustus “Gus” Boyd. A host of cousins, friends, Bethel Missionary Baptist Church Family, and Team Jesus.

Special thanks to the nurses and doctors in the CICU at Baptist South Hospital, the doctors at UAB Hospital in Birmingham, AL and especially the Alabama Kidney Foundation.

My Sister I always knew that if you could just get some real rest your healing would come. For 47 years we have been neighbors, friends and sisters. It's been a long road but you're at rest and you're healed completely now. To say that I'll miss you is an understatement. It hurts! I love you Angela. We will forever celebrate you.
