She was predeceased by Willie Mack Thompson, Samuel Thompson, Mary McCoy, Clarence Thompson, Alice Mae Thompson, JT Thompson, Sally Higgins, Iola Harris, Maggie Lois Skanes and Rebecca Thompson. She is survived by Helen Jean Johnson and Matthew Thompson. Ruth Shannon has 5 children, although she seemed like a mother to all. Vickie Shannon, Natasha Shannon, Tracy Shannon, Melissa Francis, Vernell Davis, Sharon Walker, Mike Palmer, Cassandra Leverette, Theresa McDowell, Felicia McDowell, Felecia Hendricks, Henry Antwon, Tamara Wakins, Ethel Ruth-Robinson, Lapricia Robinson, Pamela Sloan, and Oriana Sanders. Ruth is survived by 50 great grandchildren, 46 great great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.

Ruth Shannon was born in Highland Home Alabama. She attended school at Little Rock Church of Christ in Highland Home AL. She was a member at Sugar Ridge Church Of Christ for many years. She loved going to church and serving the Lord and being around family. Ruth was loved by anyone that she came in contact with, she had a beautiful spirit. She enjoyed laughter, cooking and baking. She worked as a caregiver for many years, and worked hard to provide for her family. Ruth was the true definition of what it looks like to walk in Christ. She opened up her home to anyone that needed a home, She fed anyone who was hungry, She prayed for anyone who needed prayer. She would give anyone the shirt off her back and not expect anything in return. She will truly be missed, but she is where she belongs; in a seat next to the creator, watching over everyone.

In the flesh we want our loved ones here with us. In the flesh we will grieve, cry, and feel pain but, Revelation 21:4 say “He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” Ruth would always say “I am kickin but not high” which is the perfect symbolism for continuing to push through even if it takes time. Ruth is now kickin with most high, and one day we will meet again, and all be kickin together.

Remember: Isaiah 41:10 Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand”.

Add A Condolence

You were more than a grandmother—you were a second mother, a teacher, and a best friend. I'll never forget the way your love filled a room, or how your cooking brought the family together. Those big dinners, your famous German chocolate cake, and the way you dressed up so beautifully—even in your heels until you couldn't wear them anymore—will always live in my memory. And oh, how I'll miss you fussing at me and Aunt Eula for eating all the pound cake, even when we couldn't have just one piece. Those little moments made life sweeter, and they'll stay with me forever. I love you grandma forever ❤️🙏
