Obituary For Mrs. Shirley Ann Ross
Mrs. Shirley Ann Ross, a resident of Montgomery, AL. Funeral service will be Saturday, February 14, 2026, from True Divine Baptist Church at 11:00 A.M. Burial will follow in Alabama Heritage Cemetery.
Mrs. Shirley Ann Ross was born May 23,1945, to the late Reverend James and Lettice Rice in Mauvilla, Alabama. She departed this life on Saturday, February 7, 2026.
Shirley accepted Christ at an early age at Mount Olive Baptist Church in Mauvilla, Alabama.
Shirley graduated in 1963 from Rosa A. Lott School in Mobile, AL, where she was the valedictorian of her class. She attended the Mobile Branch of Alabama State College in 1965 and went on to attend the main campus of Alabama State College in 1966. She graduated cum laude in 1968 with a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Elementary Education.
Shirley took her skills and talents as an elementary school teacher to Pontiac, Michigan. While in Michigan, Shirley attended Oakland University where she earned a Master's in Reading. She spent over 35 years shaping the minds of young children in the Pontiac School District in roles as a teacher, librarian and media center specialist. Her dedicated work at Will Rogers, Malcolm, and Herrington Elementary Schools left a lasting impact on the community as well as the lives of many young learners. After her retirement from education in the Pontiac School District, Shirley returned to Montgomery, Alabama.
In 2013, Shirley moved to Montgomery, Alabama where she continued to dedicate her time volunteering at the Information Help Desk at Baptist Medical Center South. Shirley had an unwavering commitment to her alma mater, Alabama State University. She enjoyed attending various events, especially athletic events.
Shirley was an avid reader, writer, traveler and enjoyed nurturing beautiful flowers. She loved helping others. Shirley never met a stranger and was held in high regard by all who knew her. She believed her life’s purpose was that “she lived simple, so that others could simply live”.
Shirley Ann Ross was preceded in death by her husband, Quinton T. Ross, Sr., granddaughter, Katelyn Nicole Toussaint, parents, Reverend James and Lettice Rice, three brothers: Clyde (Veronica) Rice, Edmond (Velma) Rice, Gene (Charlotte) Rice, and three sisters: Janice Sims, Jamesetta (Renard) Mose, Carolyn (David) Davis.
Memories of Shirley’s life and legacy will be cherished by her three loving and devoted children: Quinton (JK) Ross, Jr., Montgomery, AL, Ursula Ross, Pontiac, MI; Quintlon (Jia) Ross, Montgomery, AL; five grandchildren: Quinmari (Kayla Otis) Ross, Pontiac, MI; Quaeshun (Ja’lyn) Ross, Detroit, MI; Myles Ross, Quinton T. Ross, III and Graysen Ross, all of Montgomery, AL; Nadia Carthone, Atlanta, GA; six great-grandchildren: Qualaeb, Bailey, Kennedi, Quincy, Riley, and Justice; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and a trusted and faithful friend, Tania Gilbert

Today, my heart is heavy as I say goodbye to a woman who was more than just a mother figure — she was a safe place, a shelter, and a blessing in my life. When I had nowhere to go, she opened her home and her heart to me without hesitation. She didn't just give me a roof over my head — she gave me love, guidance, and stability when I needed it most.
I will forever be grateful for her kindness, her strength, and the way she made me feel like family. Her compassion changed my life, and her memory will always live within me.
