It is with dear condolences I write. Mr. Johnson was my science teacher at Carver High School in 1969. He helped me to overcome my shyness of important people. Later he supported my Christian education program and work at South Branch Library. I have to say no other teacher did that. I am thankful to the Johnson family for sharing him with us. Thank you Christine and family for sharing Mr. Carl Johnson. He was very instrumental when I was in high school in the early 70's when busing was implemented in Memphis. It was a turbulent time being at a predominantly white school and welcoming in black students from Geeter. The hostile white parents were at school just as much as their kids were. Mr. Johnson made sure he, other officials and our parents were at the school also. That meant a lot to me and every time I think about what he did for the students at Fairley, it reminds me what a difference a person can make in ones life. Mr. Johnson went on to encourage me to pursue my love of journalism and later helped my son when he entered school. Thank you again and may he now rest in peace.

Mrs. Johnson, Carl and Cheryl the Hess family sends our love and prayers to you all. My dad Warren Hess always talked about how he and Carl Sr, went to school for 12 years together. They both went on to teach school. When my dad died your dad was there for our family. My mom has good memories of our families spending time together when we young. Take care and I will be in touch.

Mrs. Christine, Cheryl and Everett, your Drake Cove family is here for you. Growing up next door to you were our extended family and were there for us when daddy was out of town.

Having lived in "The Cove" until my Senior year at Overton, there toooooo many memories to share but some of the fondest memories was campaigning with you and knocking on doors and staying out LATE, watching you leave for Board meetings and neighbors like Faye Lewis giving you instructions.

Later on we worked together during Dr. Herenton's Administration in City Hall.

You worked hard then and continued to work until the end.

Now is the time to take your rest.

May you rest well in Paradise, Mr. Johnson.

Soror Johnson, Carl and Cheryl, we extend our condolences for the loss of Mr. Johnson. When we moved to Drake Cove in 1964, your family was one of the first to reach out to welcome us. Mr. Johnson was the ultimate neighbor. When our dad wasn't there, Mr. Johnson stepped in to mentor our son and brother, Roy Jerone. He played ball with us, he renovated our bathroom, he talked politics with us, he mentored TaJuan when she joined the school board. He was always there when a neighbor was in need. And most importantly, he never forgot us—no matter where life took us. He will be missed by our family greatly, and I'm certain our story is not unique. May the Lord grant you comfort during your period of grief knowing that he was not only loved by your family, but by many families just like ours, as well.
