Deborah Jo Carter Hall 71 of Memphis, TN submitted to The Master's will on June 5, 2025. Deborah was born on December 7, 1953, to James G. and Gloria L. Carter. She was a proud Melrose Wildcat graduating class of 1971.
She confessed a hope in Christ at Emmanuel Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Walter and Lady Selma Ragsdale. There she learned to excel in her gift of music under Lady Selma Ragsdale.
This begins a long career in the music industry. Having the opportunity to start playing for Morning Star Baptist Church under the direction of Pastor W. A. Sesley. This opened the door for Deborah to play for many other church congregations. Just to name a few, she played for Olivet Baptist Church, The Healing Center, Eastern Star Baptist Church, and New Hope Baptist Church.
In the prime of her career, she was afforded many more opportunities. Deborah was connected to Stax Records where she played for Isaac Hayes, Al Greene, and KC and the Sunshine Band. Deborah wrote and sang background for many well-known artists.
While progressing in her career Deborah met and married the love of her life Willie Hall.
She leaves a legacy of love with her husband. Her sister Sylvia Carter, a sister-in-law Jacquelyn E. Williams, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, June 12, 2025, 6:00pm at New Friendship Baptist Church, 1490 Gold Ave Memphis, TN 38106.
I remember the days when she was with KC and The Sunshine Band. We would run into each other on the road on different tours. We were so excited to see each other. Two ladies from Memphis, from Orange Mound, from Melrose High School. So so special. Those were wonderful times. Such a sweet person. May our Father in heaven comfort your family and give them strength during this time.
Praying without ceasing for comfort and peace for the friends and family. Knew she was BAD on the organ at Olivet. Didn't realize she was a dynamic singer until the Sunday she sang, "The safest place in the whole wide world, is in the arms of God." That's where she is now. SAFE!
Dark days seem like they never end,I know you are wondering if you will be able to get through these days but they are just like any other day. The clouds will clear up, the birds will sing again, so hold on firmly to faith and hope.
God's got Her! Rest in His Arms!
My deepest sympathy and heartfelt condolences to the family and friends, I had the pleasure of working with Debra, always a great spirit and positive attitude.
God bless the life love fellowship inspiration creativity gift of Deborah...always encouraging...
