Rev. Dr. James L. Netters, Sr. , 93 Died 12/13/2020
"It is with a heavy heart that I inform you of the passing of my beloved husband, Dr. James Lavert Netters, Sr., Pastor Emeritus of the Mt. Vernon Baptist Church-Westwood where he served for more than sixty years. My beloved husband was a Trail Blazer, Civil Rights Activist, National Legend, Change Agent, Servant Leader, but most importantly, a Gospel Preacher. He served this city, county, state and this nation well. He lived a long, rich and full life of 93 years. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him because a true servant has gone from labor to reward. One of his favorite quotes is "May the work I've done speak for me." Please pray for the Netters family, the Mt. Vernon Baptist Church-Westwood family,

To the Family of Dr. Netters, May the depths of love, grace and mercy of God continue to be source of your comfort, strength and peace as you experience the passing of Dr. Netters from labor to rest in the Lord. We will miss his gifts and talents among us, but remember the blessings that he left with us. You are in my prayers as we thank God for him and for keeping you! In the love of Christ Jesus, rev. samuel nixon, jr., Alexandria, VA II Cor. 8:7,9
My husband, Andy Fox and I became friends with the Netters when he first served on the City Council. We came to the church for special services and they came to our home for dinner. We lost touch a little over the years, but still felt close. I honored my husbands request and asked him to give the eulegy at my husbands funeral. He did a great job and it was probably the first time a Baptist presided at a Jewish funeral.
I met Rev. Netters when Mt. Vernon visited Monumental Baptist Church. I was a Bank Teller at First Tennessee Bank. I was 24 Years old. He came into the Bank to conduct normal Monday church business. He offered me an opportunity I could not resist. To become his Administrative Assistant was an honor and a privilege. From there, I became The Minister of Music for Mt. Vernon. As Administrative Assistant, I oversaw the operations of the Early Childhood Development Center. Rev. Netters met my Dad, invited him to preach...13 souls came to the Lord that Sunday...The relationship between my Dad and Rev. Netters grew to a point where my Dad, knowing that his days were numbered, asked Pastor Netters to become my God-father. I could talk with him about things close to my heart. He gave his advice and counsel but never forced me to act upon it...I listened, most times, when I didn't, I felt it... He never judged me, he loved me in spite of me. Referred to me as "My Daughter" Always answered with a cheerful voice, whenever I called. There's so much more that I could share. The epitome of a loving, trusting, father, friend and Pastor.
