Sadden to hear of Kelvin's passing. We were in school together and Northside Neighbors, Kelvin was a great friend and John Marshall legend as a coach and awesome supporter. A committed supporter of the Basketball team all throughout his life and now Kelvin can rest on his Laurels. Prayers and Condolences to his family and friends. Peace and Blessings.
As many others have already shared, Barnes loved JM. He would be there for any event and would help out without being asked to do so. He always participated in our annual Faculty-Student Basketball Game. He'd find a way to play even if he was subbing next door at Henderson on the day of the game. 'Deadeye' Barnes would rain 3s in the Sold Out gym as the games were played as fundraisers for the Athletic Department. He also supported all RPS schools and athletic teams. He even came to Varina games and would 'assist' there as well. Barnes will be missed but not forgotten. He was JAYEM!

My sisncere condolences to the Barnes family, kelvin was a staple to the Northside community, especially people from Northside as well as Highland Park. Kelvin had a heart for everyone whom he knew and beacame close to.He would always share his thoughts and feelings about issues pertaining to JM ,whether it was good or bad, he didnt hesitate to speak on it, he wanted to see JM students succed on the field of play as well as in the classroom. Kelvin loved people from other communities as well, as you would notice him at other schools, if there was a rivalry game or game of week, he follwed all sports, for those who dont know, he was very passionate about track and field, as he looked forward to helping the track program unconditionally without notice. As we continue to mourn for Kelvin, let us remember what he stood for, solitary ,pride, ethics, respect and Family, the NORTHSIDE FAMILIES AND FRIENDS.
May God Bless you always, as this is the day the Lord has made, may we all be glad and rejoice in it. Coah Mario

My condolences to all of Kelvin's family. 🙏🏽 Kelvin & I shared the same passion. We both loved working with young people and we both loved basketball 🏀. I think Kelvin and I invented the 3-point shot. I could always count on Kelvin to be my substitute teacher when I needed him.📚 Kelvin was a very supportive Alumni of JMHS Justices. 🙏🏽
One of my many memories of Kelvin is taking me back to the years when his brother Joseph was ill and thereafter, passed away. Kelvin dedicated his ALL to taking care of his brother. Now they are together again both RESTING IN PEACE with our HEAVENLY FATHER.
Mr. Barnes was an awesome supporter and long-term substitute teacher at Henderson Middle School. He arrived every day with a smile, followed the lesson plans left by the regular teacher, managed student behavior well, and showed genuine care for students' understanding and well-being. His presence will be missed.
I will miss seeing Barnes at sporting events. My most sincere condolences and prayers to the family.
Barnes was one of the biggest supporters of high school sports I've ever met. He especially loved attending basketball games in support of city schools. He was always a fixture in the stands and would fined his was over to speak. For people who didn't know, his was a great basketball player in his time. He will be missed.
