Obituary For MR. BILLY BOB TYSON
Mr. Billy Bob Tyson, known affectionately as "Billy T," transitioned peacefully from this life on Sunday, February 16, 2025, at Clerk Creek Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Mint Hill, NC.
Billy was born on March 12, 1945, to the late Rev. Junious Leon Tyson and Hannah Mae Marshall Tyson in Anson County, North Carolina. He grew up in a close-knit community, attending the local public schools and developing a strong foundation of values and friendships that would last a lifetime.
For over 25 years, Billy dedicated himself to his work at Canteen, a job he held with pride. His unwavering commitment and exemplary service did not go unnoticed, as he was honored with an Appreciation Award, celebrating his contributions to the company and the friendships he forged with his colleagues.
Billy was united in Holy Matrimony to Barbara Morgan Tyson, who preceded him in death. Together, they welcomed a son, Brian Tyson, and an adopted daughter, Brandi Laureen Tyson.
A devoted family man, Billy savored each moment with his loved ones. His passion for music was a significant part of his life; his singing brought joy to many. One of his favorite songs, "Can I Change My Mind" by Tyrone Davis, resonated deeply with him and his audience, showcasing his heartfelt connection to music. He loved his church dearly.
In addition to his parents, Billy was preceded in death by two brothers, James Edward Marshall and Bunyon Tyson.
He leaves behind a legacy of love, including three sons: Brian Tyson, who resided at home; Michael Wall (Andrea) of Dallas, Texas; and Michael Baucom of Charlotte, NC. Billy also leaves two daughters, Brandi Laureen Tyson of Greensboro, NC, and Sharon Royal (Warren) of Charlotte, NC, and four beloved grandchildren.
Billy's family also includes a sister, M. Patricia Ingram, whom he lovingly nicknamed and called "Peter," of New York, and his cousin, Helen Tillman of Lilesville, NC, whom he regarded as a sister. He is remembered fondly by a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, including special friends Zadek Woodburn of Morven, NC, Alexander Ratliff of New York and Sam and Berlena Staton of Harrisburg, NC.
Billy T’s life was a testament to love, music, and cherished memories that will continue to uplift those he touched.
The Homegoing Services will be on Saturday, March 1, 2025, 2:00pm, Smith's Memorial Chapel, 604 Salisbury Street, Wadesboro, North Carolina. Interment will be at Westview Memorial Park, Polkton, North Carolina.
The Family will greet family and friends on Saturday, March 1, 2025, from 1:30-2:00pm at Smith's Memorial Chapel.
The public viewing will be on Friday, February 28, 2025 from 2:30-5:30pm.
The services will be live streamed on Facebook-H.C. Smith Funeral Home.

Add A CondolenceBilly has always been a part of my life, and I'll never forget the tapes he and his sister, Pat, recorded songs for me to send to my husband when he was in Vietnam. I invited Billy over for a Memorial Day cookout, and we had a great time, catching up, singing, just enjoying each other's company. Rest In Peace, Billy!!!!

I met Mr.Tyson in the 90s as a child in church at South Tryon Presbyterian Church. I got to know Mr. Tyson as I got older from going over his house after church to hang with Brandi to his Bible studies at Fairmarket Plaza, where he had an entire fan club. Mr. Tyson was an alluring and electrifying man !!! His stories, his voice, his smile, his entire being was that of a man who loved life and a people person. I saw Mr. Tyson a few years ago right after covid and he was still this amazing man, making sure I was staying out of trouble and checking on my sister and grandmother to make sure they were doing the same !!! Mr. Tyson didn't hide who he was and was uberly proud of the man he was. Absolutely nothing scared him !!! Saying that Mr. Tyson was an amazing man is an understatement !!! When in fact he was so much more than amazing words cannot express the man he was. To the family, my family and I express our deepest condolences as we all loved Mr. Tyson. - The Davis family (Eva, Michelle, and Alex) Brandi, from me to you, I love you dearly and I hope that the memories you made with your dad comfort you in the times you feel alone or need him. He was so proud of you, when I would see him periodically and ask about you he was so proud of you and what you were doing. I hope you find comfort in those memories and knowing that your dad is up there at the right hand of God using that awesome voice to serenade him !!! Myself and Isaiah extend our deepest condolences to the family. We know Billy is at Peace and Resting in his father's loving and caring arms. We will miss his singing down here.,but I know he's singing with the heavenly choir. We will see each other again and sing "All Night" one of his songs he sang at church.
I honestly can't believe still that you're gone. I'm in a state of disbelief and it will take a long time for it to truly register for me. A remarkable person has left us and you were loved by so many people. I feel honored to have grown up with you. We went through the same tribulations that a father and daughter go through when they're growing up but like you told me, as soon as I became an adult, I understood everything you told me. I've always watched in awe at the many talents you had. He is the epitome of multifaceted. I've always admired the way you lit up ANY room or space you walked into. Exuding confidence, even until the end. You are the strongest person I've ever met (Mom would be 2nd) and even in the end, I never saw you upset or feeling down. You were always there for me and I'll always forever be grateful. I love you Dad.
