Clinton Phillips Jr. was born December 25, 1941 in Union County, North Carolina, to Clinton Clyde Phillips, Sr. and Verla Mae Jordan Phillips. He was called to eternal rest on September 7, 2025.
The oldest of seven children, Clinton grew up in Marshville, NC. He graduated from East Union School in Marshville, North Carolina in 1963. He accepted Christ at an early age and joined Chambers Groove Baptist Church and later joined Salem Church in Pageland, South Carolina where he served as a trustee and in various other roles and was a faithful member until his health began to fail.
Clinton spent most of his career as an agricultural farmer. He started out raising turkeys in the 1970’s and later switched to raising broiler chickens with Tyson Foods in the 1990’s. He also diversified into raising cattle and growing and harvesting hay.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Clinton Clyde Phillips Sr. and Verla Mae Phillips, along with three sisters, Geraldine Price, Mary Thompson, Diane Douglas, and one brother, Steve Phillips.
Left to cherish his memories are his loving and devoted wife, Jessie Phillips; his four children, Derek (Christy) Phillips, Ira Phillips, La Toya Phillips-Blakeney (Joe), and Robert Thomas, all of Union County, North Carolina; four grandchildren; Kiandra Henderson, Taylor Williams, Maya Mosley, Cadien Phillips and four great grandchildren. He also leaves to mourn his passing three sisters, Emma Sinclair of Peachland, NC, Sara Carter of Decatur, GA and Henrietta Scott of Charlotte, NC; his Classmates and Best Friends, Olin Marsh of Marshville, NC and Roger Rorie of Peachland, NC; three Godsons; Scott McMillian, Derrick McClain, and Willis Woodberry.
Clinton is further survived by his beloved aunt; Viola Wheeler of Elgin, SC, his sister-in-law; Naomi Roberts of Woodbridge, VA and brothers-in-law; Henry Douglas of Charlotte, NC and George Thompson of Monroe, NC.
He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many dear friends who will continue to cherish his memory.
The Homegoing Services will be held on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Smith's Memorial Chapel, 604 Salisbury Street, Wadesboro, North Carolina. Interment will follow in the family plot of Salem United Methodist Church Cemetery, Pageland, South Carolina.
The Phillips Family will greet family and friends on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, from 12:00-1:00 pm at Smith's Memorial Chapel and at all other times at the family residence.
